But will there be a political pushback from more rural areas, fed up with being pushed by Green Blob City dwellers?

Yes. It's working, too. Enough of the Oz population is now convinced that this fire season is made very much worse by "anthopogenic climate change". Not that the anthropogenic adjective is used at all - natural climate change never happens, except in the unimaginable and unimportant geological past, don't you know ...

"Roger Federer responds to climate crisis criticism from Greta Thunberg
Credit Suisse closely linked with fossil fuel industry
#RogerWakeUpNow has been trending on Twitter"

https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2020/jan/12/roger-federer-responds-to-climate-change-criticism-from-greta-thunberg

"Roger Federer has issued a cautiously worded response to mounting criticism, including from climate activist Greta Thunberg, over his sponsorship deal with Credit Suisse.

A dozen Swiss activists appeared in court on Tuesday after refusing to pay a fine for playing tennis inside branches of Credit Suisse bank in November 2018, in a stunt intended to underscore Federer’s relationship with the Swiss financial giant, which is closely linked with the fossil fuel industry.

They also held up banners reading: “Credit Suisse is destroying the planet. Roger, do you support them?” Lawyers for the activists, mostly students, said they were appealing the fine of 21,600 Swiss francs ($AU32,000) on the basis they were acting as whistleblowers for the climate emergency. Protesters with signs gathered outside the courtroom in Lausanne, and the hashtag #RogerWakeUpNow has been trending on Twitter."

Guadian/Observer still encouraging flying, despite the "climate crisis":

Who are the CCC but a self appointed group calling themselves "independent" ?

and their Citizen’s Assemblies are biased cos they are self selecting
The normal people turn down the invitation cos they have real lives so are busy
And the only ones accepting are hardcore activists.

Yes, sorry... they said there would be something more significant to follow.

Iran have been trying to provoke Trump and the West. To my surprise, and I suspect to that of many others, Trump has resisted. It could be that a decision to take out Seulimani had been taken months ago, but as with Osama bin Laden, location took a while to establish in an area that an attack could be launched.

If this speculation is correct, it does send an added warning to anyone attempting to coordinate attacks on the US, including other Iranians, North Koreans etc.

Canadians of Iranian origin have often not been a force for good. Passenger list is on t'web.

Plane did a 180 degree turn.

Maybe Iran shot by accident. Maybe not. This year's MH17.

"Iran has still not delivered any of its retaliation for Seulimans assassination" gc

But they have. They fired at a US base in Iraq but they let several countries know that they were going to do it, so there was time to make people safe. Rumour is that they were nervous of sparking US retaliation but wanted to show their own people that they were strong.

They thought that Soleimani was under the radar, stirring up terrorist groups and pointing them at the US. Seems that the US have known for ages and finally acted.
