I like the way an account that claims to be anti-PR troll*
says Big Oil spent $2m on social media in a month of the midterms

If that is the biggest number he can come up with
it's pennies

* I expect he is projecting

"Extinction Rebellion could sue police over extremist ideology listing
Group threatens action after being named in guide designed to help prevent terrorism"

That's a move that could turn into a cock-up on the part of XR!

@TinyCO2 "As I gather, not all or even most of the arrests were for arson but for doing things"
Did you read the Sydney Morning Herald Article mentioned in the tweet ?

====

The alarmists PR starts with a strawman about Skeptics "That we say ALL fires are caused by arson"
when actually our case is 10% of that
We are just claiming that the Alarmists claim ALL bushfires would be practically zero without Global Warming"
Is BS cos the almost 200 arrests show that a least some of the fires were started by arsonists.

There might well be 2,000 fire starts for all I know, or just 220
but either way a lot of those would not have happened without arsonists

I'm happy to back down re Iran! In the conspiracy -v- cock-up wars, I almost always support cock-up. It's just that the cock-up this time - if that's what it was - is staggering in its scope; and that's what makes me wonder if that's really what it was.

It's certainly going down very badly in Iran with the Iranian people, so if it was a conspiracy, then it could be that it's very quickly turning into a cock-up!

My take on the Iranian plane tragedy.

We know there were multiple rockets fired as we have seen the satellite traces.
If there was just one rocket fired from near your house someone nearby would grab there phone.

There was at least one Canadian / Iranian couple on the plane who had returned to Iran for a wedding. Their family and friends made up a lot of the passengers.

The Iranian regime is quite capable of assassinating someone without getting on CNN. So could the USA. But the USA doesn't care if people know whom they kill as showing they are untouchable is the main point. It intimidates elites and pulls support from Iran. If Iran was trying to kill someone they would do it quietly or obviously. They would not hide the bodies amongst a plane-load of bystanders.

This was a cock-up.
It has many root causes including lack of experience amongst the young Iranian military population, extreme nervousness about what USA was going to do next and the impact of sanctions in the effectiveness of Iranian radar systems.

If you do want to find a conspiracy look at the funding if the wars in Yemen or Libya. You will find dubious issues there on all sides.

@GC I thought that's what you meant
but my error
you really did mean that a random Iranian nutter could have downed the airliner

Jan 11, 2020 at 6:27 PM | Registered Commenterstewgreen

AK, that's their claim, not mine. Maybe the plane was hit in the earlier strike/s but the last one finished the job?

Stewgreen, Trump IS a nutter but that's part of his success. America's enemies had become too sure that American Presidents were too soft and could act with impugnity. Which is why Soleimani thought he was safe. With Trump they're not so sure, especially now. On the negative side, some of these leaders are religious nut jobs and believe they'll go to paradise. They want nukes because they think they'll be safe from US meddling.
