Greenshirt thuggery condemned
While I was busy yesterday, several people pointed me to another shot in the ongoing battle between advocates for indigenous peoples and the environmentalists who are trampling roughshod over them.
Survival International has apparently issued a formal complaint to the OECD about WWF, whose hired hands have been involved in violent abuse of the Baka people of Cameroon.
This is the first time a conservation organization has been the subject of a complaint to the OECD (Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development), using a procedure more normally invoked against multinational corporations.
The complaint charges WWF with involvement in violent abuse and land theft against Baka “Pygmies” in Cameroon, carried out by anti-poaching squads which it in part funds and equips.
I would have thought the Charities Commissioner might take an interest too.

Elephants are bigger than people and so are more important.
A variant of that idea will be WWF's defence.
WWF is bigger than Survival International and so is in the right.
It would work with Environmental Journalists at least. They know which side their bread is buttered.
Re 'using a procedure more normally invoked against multinational corporations', I have always assumed the WWF is a multinational corporation. A particularly harmful one.
Meanwhile the Department for International Development funds their overseas operations to the tune of £3m a year.
".....the Charities Commissioners may take an interest too". Highly unlikely looking at how they work. It seems that there are more fake charities than honest ones. We also have a spendthrift government that loves supporting these fake green charities, all of whom are working against the interests of this Country and People. It is our money and our Country, not Camerons!
Good grief. We seem to have given the WWF taxpayers' money to enable them to go and teach pygmies, who have lived in the forest for centuries, about sustainability.
I recommend PandaLeaks: The dark side of WWF.
Written by an ultra green loony but it does dish the dirt on those execrable WWF thieves and charlatans.
By coincidence, today the BBC has an article coming over all touchy-feely about Western neo-colonialism in India. Comments by a Facebook investor are the target, but the so called BBC probably hasn't noticed that they themselves are two faced and always give WWF and Greenpeace a green light when it come to telling foreigners how to lead their lives as enviromentalists require.
Here is a BBC story (from 2000) about a small Amazon tribe called the U'wa. They threatened to commit mass suicide if an oil company destroyed their sacred land. Al Gore stepped in... on behalf of the oil company.
"This dispute is threatening Al Gore's reputation as an environmentalist.
He has close ties and a large financial stake in Occidental Petroleum, despite its poor environmental image. His father, Al Gore senior, was on Occidental's board for three decades. As vice president of the United States, his son helped the company win drilling concessions.

WWF, Greenpeace etc love the 'big spectacular' media coverage. Time a few high profile prosecutions were brought, to help the public understand the world wide, wild life style, a few elite are enjoying at taxpayers expense.
Oh, come on - this abuse of the Baka peoples was probably carried out by WWF LIMITED, which is of course nothing whatsoever to do with WWF....
The history of the WWF is that of ruling class Malthusians, some of whom wanted to save animals in order to have something to shoot. Princes Bernhard and Phillip (both Nazis in WW2) and arch eugenicist, Sir Julian Huxley. They are very deep ecological organisation.
"Godfrey A. Rockefeller (Standard Oil) also played an important role in its creation, assembling the first staff. Its establishment marked with the signing of the "Morges Manifesto", the founding document that sets out the fund's ideology."

So, once again, we see deep connections between Greens and the oil industry. Big oil wants to control the Greens. For really obvious reasons.

Prince Philip (with one L) served in the Royal Navy during WW2. Among the battles he took part in were the Battle of Cape Matapan where he was mentioned in despatches.
What on earth have you ever done for this country?
Roy. I wake up, sing the national anthem then read the Daily Mail. You should do the same.
"Prince Philip has broken a 60-year public silence about his family's links with the Nazis.
In a frank interview, he said they found Hitler's attempts to restore Germany's power and prestige 'attractive' and admitted they had 'inhibitions about the Jews'. The revelations come in a book about German royalty kowtowing to the Nazis, which features photographs never published in the UK.
They include one of Philip aged 16 at the 1937 funeral of his elder sister Cecile, flanked by relatives in SS and Brownshirt uniforms. One row back in the cortege in Darmstadt, western Germany, was his uncle, Lord Mountbatten, wearing a Royal Navy bicorn hat."
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-379036/Prince-Philip-pictured-Nazi-funeral.html
So, why was Philip so keen to be seen as pro British ? He was pursuing 13 year old Princess Elizabeth, a very well heeled young lady.
"It tells a riveting tale of how the slippery old fixer Lord Mountbatten conspired to marry his nephew, Prince Philip Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg, into the British royal family.
The outlines of this story have been told before but the strength of this rendition is the supporting evidence, from both archive and witnesses. Photos show Philip at the funeral of one of several Nazi relatives, and a veteran survivor of his bloodline, startlingly, reads aloud a privately printed memoir by one of his sisters, describing encounters with Goebbels and Hitler.
In another book written for private circulation – the documentary benefits greatly from this literary ancestor of blogging – Philip’s naval captain reveals that, with the encouragement of Mountbatten, he was writing weekly to Princess Elizabeth when she was only 13.

I wonder if the BBC will be reporting this.
stewgreen pandaleaks.org works for me (UK).
"WWF International accused of 'selling its soul' to corporations. Pandaleaks writer says conservation group has forged links with business which is using it to 'greenwash' their operations.
The book also argues that WWF, which was set up by Prince Philip and Prince Bernhart of the Netherlands in 1961, runs an elite club of 1,001 of the richest people in the world, whose names are not revealed. Industrialists, philanthropists and ultra-conservative, upper-class naturalists, they are said to make up an "old boys' network with influence in the corridors of global and corporate and policy-making power".
Names of the members that have slipped out over the years include Baron von Thyssen, Fiat boss Gianni Agnelli, and Henry Ford, as well as corrupt politicians such as Mobutu Sese Seko of Zaire, the former president of the International Olympic Committee Juan Samaranch, and beer baron Alfred Heineken.
"The '1001 club' is still important for the WWF, even though it's not a secret central committee. I hate conspiracy theories, but I'm convinced that the discreet '1001 club' still influences the strategic decisions of the WWF, because many of its members are important players in global and powerful financial and industrial corporations that rule the planet," Huismann told the Observer.
Pandaleaks also attacks the WWF's loose relationship with the energy industry. Its first corporate sponsor was Shell, one of whose presidents also served as president of WWF. The organisation has said recently that it is phasing out donations from fossil fuel companies, but this is not complete and in 2010 it was paid by Shell and BP to study which forests in the southern hemisphere should be retained and where land could be cleared for industrial use.

Good job esmiff isn't a paranoid lunatic, or he might start spouting unadulterated twaddle.
Having had some exposure to Survival I would find it hard to differentiate them from WWF. While working in the Central Kalahari Reserve I noticed that they seemed to spend an awful lot on advertising, on their salaries and benefits, their London office and travel and accommodation. I did not see much direct benefit to the San people who they claimed they were defending from the Botswana government. A number of the San we had relations with said they had never heard of Survival.
Phrases about pots and kettles come to mind in relation to their complaints about WWF.
Here's a blog article from 2014 about the WWF/Baka situation:

I think you maybe is getting a little confused here.
Who are the paranoid lunatics spouting unadulterated twaddle ?
Is it the authors of the Guardian or the Daily Mail articles. The BBC or Wikipedia ?
Please specify, maybe it's all of them. I'm sure they'd absolutely love to hear from you in any case. Don't mention the war.

I see you are back on your favourite hobby-horse: Conspiracy Theory
1. Philip Mountbatten was at the funeral of his sister, what others wore is irrelevant and he had no control or influence on what they wore. He, nor Lord Mountbatten, wore any "Nazi" clothing and it was before he met Princess Elizabeth, hence he had no reason to hide any esmiff alleged "Nazi" support.
2. The views of other members of his family do not mean he shared them.
3. Your sibling/parent dies, you attend funeral, others are wearing KKK uniform - does that mean you support KKK? Your mother and her side of your family mostly support KKK - does that mean you and your father do too?
Finally, memory problems? You forgot to mention Philip Mountbatten's involvement with Thatcher, Bush, Reagan, ENRON and the bankers ;)
I can sell you a new improved tin-foil hat if you've lost the old one ;)

The same information appeared in the Guardian article.
"Photos show Philip at the funeral of one of several Nazi relatives, and a veteran survivor of his bloodline, startlingly, reads aloud a privately printed memoir by one of his sisters, describing encounters with Goebbels and Hitler."
The idea that Philip's family were fervent Nazis who met Goebbels and Hitler but he wasn't, isn't credible. The Daily Mail article reads like a confession. He was outed and had to own up about his family. His WWF colleague Prince Bernhardt was a member of the Nazi party, but like Philip fought against them. That is the crazy world of the supra national royals. Philips family were of German heritage, but they became rulers of Greece and Denmark.
The royal House of Mountbatten is a European dynasty originating as a branch of the German princely Battenberg family.

Even if Philip Mountbatten did initially support/sympathise with Hitler's National Socialist Party in 1937, after seeing what they were doing he obviously changed his mind as he fought against them in WWII. He made an active decision to do that, he was not conscripted.
You post the usual "here's a link" so it's true drivel.
It is a left-wing myth that Hitler was right wing to disassociate them from what he did with his other left-wing allie Stalin.
Remind me, who was the PM and party who supported Hitler's allies before WWII?
No need for answer, found it: it was Labour who supported and appeased Hitler's National Socialist Party allies
Grow up and stop the juvenile student conspiracy theory posts and thread diversions/hijacking.
You are as bad as Phil Clarke and Dork with regard to posting url twaddle, thread hijacking and conspiracy theories.

You aren't interested in the truth, you're only interested in pushing your sub Daily Mail, uneducated, right wing, infantile prejudices.
For everyone else, I raised Bernhard and Philip, not to discredit them, but to discredit the WWF. We are all products of our time and the circumstances we grew up in.
The Pandaleaks confirms the nature of their membership thus
"The book also argues that WWF, which was set up by Prince Philip and Prince Bernhart of the Netherlands in 1961, runs an elite club of 1,001 of the richest people in the world, whose names are not revealed. Industrialists, philanthropists and ultra-conservative, upper-class naturalists, they are said to make up an "old boys' network with influence in the corridors of global and corporate and policy-making power".
