Green rump
Sep 11, 2015 Energy: gas Greens
With mainstream greens all coming out in favour of fracking (Robin Harper signed up yesterday, adding his name to a list that now includes Stern, Deben and Worthington), it looks at though only a green rump - the true oddballs of the movement - want to continue the fight.

(You would have thought that a top person in the creative industries could have thought up their own publicity stunt rather than pinching Guido's idea.)

A carbon neutral tank?
Better sell that to the MOD.
Look at all those emissions visible from when the not-a-tank starts up.
So environmentally unfriendly; and, if it has to have an MOT, it'd be unlikely to pass.
I suppose they have had time now to update there portfolio.
Or even their portfolio..........
Exactly what is the message they want to send with a tank?
Give us what we want or we'll shoot?
A bit strange really.
The rump have made it quite clear on many occasions that it isn't about CO2 reduction for them, it is about reducing global consumption and hence growth. In the unlikely event that solar & wind ever contributed to growth then they'd be against those technologies too. Nobody can ever put a rational argument to such loonies.
They'll all be pretty moody this weekend. The government has just refused permission for the Navitus wind factory off the Isle of Wight.
I live in a village in East Yorkshire where there is a bungalow with a poster in the window that reads "Farming not Fracking". I suppose it should come as no surprise that an ignorant neophobic luddite should be unable to spot a false dichotomy.
Wouldn't we have been more impressed with a convoy of electric cars... assuming they could find more than 3 owners who were prepared to risk running out of juice? Imagine a line of 100 cars running in near silence. Much more iconic. It would still be a stupid waste of energy but it would at least be more appropriate.
What part of reducing CO2 do these dumbos not understand? I could predict other high energy stunts that they could try instead of a tank but I'd be afraid they'd read my comment and think it was good advice.
So that's OK then. We can forget the industries damaged and destroyed, the poor who shivered as energy prices rose, the snouts in troughs (yes, Lord Deben and Mr Yeo, I'm looking at you), forget the denigration of anyone who pointed out that with each closure of a fossil fuel power station and with each erection of another expensive and blood-sucking wind turbine we were getting closer to brown-outs and rolling power cuts, forget the yahoo chants of 'denier! denier' if anyone with two brain cells mentioned that IPCC science didn't make sense. We can forget the disastrous 'strike price' which Osborne and Hancock granted their chums in the nuclear industry to encourage them to build a reactor design which is already years late.
Before long we'll be getting the 'see, we were worried about the power crunch and we've already doing something about it' from the very people whose naivety and cupidity have put us at risk. How may deaths have they caused and will cause? But they've suddenly noticed and expect us to just accept their new words of wisdom?
These people make me sick, but perhaps you have already guessed that.

Kind of reminds me of the Kenny Everett character named Cupid Stunt who always finished an interview by saying it was "all done in the best possible taste"... as I've said before, with friends like these, who needs enemies :-)
Nah, Kenny had better taste in dresses.
it looks at though only a green rump - the true oddballs of the movement - want to continue the fight.
That is why I started calling them "climate extremists", it's the complete idiots that we condemn ... not diversity of view ... but those with their snouts so far in the trough of public money that they don't want to see the lack of warming.
Sales of the poor dear's 'clothes' must be down!
Julian Flood and Dave Salt.
Great posts - blood-sucking wind turbines and Cupid Stunt - like 'em !
"The rump have made it quite clear on many occasions that it isn't about CO2 reduction for them"
Well, yes, as we all know. "The Environment" is just the Trojan Horse/Rabbit/Badger.
Anti-fracking TANK, did you say? What is the point of that?
Greens want to kill capitalism. The Environment is just a tool to get people to accept it.
Yeah.....
Look who was purportedly driving it though.....
carrying out a "fake chemical attack" apparently - where's the police when you need 'em? - after all - threatening to blow up a crap airport on Twitter gets you a into plenty of trouble.....
The more she behaves like an unhinged harridan the better.
Great choice of a day to drive a tank and threaten regime change. Hint, it's an important day in New York.

I look forward to the opportunity of working positively with Vivienne Westwood on improving our energy supplies and security.
Matt Hancock MP, minister of state for Energy
No wonder Caroline Lucas got herself re-elected on her "record as a constituency MP".
As the expensively-educated daughter of "nice" middle class parents, she must be horrified at some of the weirdos she finds herself "in bed with" !
Or maybe not ?
So it is only the BBC that is still doing as directed by Bob Ward, and being hostile to fracking.
Just another 'not very good day' to be a BBC employee, having to trust the management.
So Stern , Deben and Worthington have found the new gravy train. They just have to work out how get on it and start on converting it into a "milk" train for their own individual benefit.
Obviously behind the scenes the data on the UK energy situation is starting to look extremely grim and these three are the start of the big repositioning of those caught up in the religion.
Did they run out of Green tanks? Or would that have looked odd as a colour for a tank in the English countryside?
The first comment under the tank scene shows the impact made.
Good to see the Grauniad getting the facts wrong from the beginning of the article:
In the first sentence of the "article" it states:
"Vivienne Westwood has driven a tank to David Cameron’s constituency home in a protest against fracking."
First it is and "APC" not a "tank", second there is no way she could drive the Armoured Personnel Carrier from where she is sitting. Just Saying.
Two "facts" wrong in the first sentence doesn't bode well for the rest of any "factual" reporting in the rest of the piece, but to be fair, all facts aside, the Grauniad is consistent!
@ Golf Charlie Sep 12, 2015 at 12:36 AM - Unsurprisingly it's in UN colours.
stunconlin, UN colours have been used to disguise the intentions of too many danderous deranged fools. It is a great way to legitimize destructive tendencies.
I do hear that the fragrant Vivienne Westwood is funding a company to create the modern version of coaching inns where you can recharge your electric coach overnight as you travel from London to Leeds, for example.

Totally agree with you.
Shouldn't she have been wearing a seat belt?
Billy Liar, Armoured Personnel Carriers are well built so that in the event of a crash or sudden impact, the APC will not sustain any damage from unrestrained personnel. You can therefore be assured that the lack of a seat belt posed no risk to the APC in the making of this video.

It would have been worth the time spent watching it if the APC had been driven over the VW next to it.
