Hunting the witchhunters

Shub Niggurath has been hard at work, following up some oddities in the disclosures Joe Romm and colleagues made in a journal article about their funding. It's fair to say that the chief witchhunter seems to have been well and truly hunted down himself:

Not only do Koomey and Romm fail to disclose funding, they expressly state the opposite trying to morally berate a fellow scientist.

Read the whole thing.

The mud slinging about funding has really dragged this squalid branch of science further into the gutter. Those funded by the public purse have to toe the official alarmist line or jeopardise their careers. The whole thing stinks.

But Joe Romm must be innocent, because he gets so much financial backing to say so.

They are all at it. NGOs posting online about "oil funded" sceptics when we get nothing and they are rolling in oil money. Academics who write papers on "conspiracy theorist" sceptics because they themselves are the worst conspiracy theorists who just can't believe that decent people would work without money to stop their vile propaganda.
And politicians who attack us for being "politically motivated" - purely out of political spite for daring to speak the truth.

Schrodinger's Cat - It's not science.

Shub - "..and either constitutes a lapse." So gentle! :-)

Did someone hack shubs computer, and the entire internet to plant this evidence against Romm?

If Romm just made a simple disclosure of his finances, and his employer's, this could be resolved so easily. But Romm never slings mud, if he can fling it, and he can probably afford nicely tailored Teflon suits

Transparency will be glorious and terrifying.

Dana discloses nothing about Tetra on the Guardian website

Mar 4, 2015 at 2:24 PM | Registered Commenteromnologos

omnologus, Dana needs a real job for when the Green economy fails to grow in accordance with computer model predictions.

I think this may amuse people and you Bish, even though it's somewhat off topic. Hat tip to Guido Fawkes and definitely in the, you couldn't make it up category.

But doesn't Dana have a singing career as fall back?

Anyway the activists have been hoisted by their own petard, which is fine by me!

If Romm did the decent thing, and published a list of those companies that have supported him financially, it would be possible to compare it with a list of companies he has attacked, as opposed to similar companies he has not attacked.

Correlation and causation conspiracy theorists are always looking for fresh opportunities too.

"If Romm did the decent thing"

It would be a first!

Mar 4, 2015 at 4:26 PM | Registered Commenterjamesp

Sadly it will get no traction in the press , so in line with normal pratice in climate 'science' the facts mean nothing what matters is the claims impact.

Mar 4, 2015 at 4:28 PM | Unregistered CommenterKnR

jamesp, it may happen yet! Soon after the next double solar eclipse, and will be celebrated at the South Pole beach party.

Romm and Koomey's HuffPo defence is strange reading when you know their situation, that they knew it when they were writing, and that they must have guessed someone would find out and make them look stupid and mendacious.

Funny thing, hubris.

Mar 4, 2015 at 4:38 PM | Registered Commenterjamesp

jamesp, maybe Romm likes his work to be laughed at, and Koomey wants equal pay with Romm. Its amazing what warmists will do and say for money, and why their supporters will hang someone out to dry, on every thread, they write.

FarleyR Dana's standard fall back position, is to sing out for help to Mann, and reference his own writings at SKS and the Grauniad.

Mann is a bit busy at the moment with a damages limitation exercise, and circular referencing, is becoming a downward spiral. He is in danger of referring to historic temperature records, that have yet to be rewritten.

jamesp, Think Progress have a wikipee entry, that notes a controversy about funding, that involved huffpo. Look quickly before it gets connellised.

Mar 4, 2015 at 5:12 PM | Unregistered CommenterGolf Charlie

With the Regressive policies advocated by Romm at ThinkProgress, you have to question which interests, both in, and outside the USA, are hoping to see a financial return, and which now realise they have been duped.

When the mud hits the fans, applause isn't welcoming.

Thanks, GC. I've screen-grabbed the relevant bit and will keep an eye out for Stoat...

Would that be singing the tune "All kinds of everything are caused by CO2"?

Can you provide a link to the piece that you are talking about @5:12PM?

Mar 4, 2015 at 6:41 PM | Unregistered Commenterbernie1815

It doesn't add up, Dana International won the Eurovision contest 1998, for Israel. This explains some of my confusion, about EU plans for expansion, and Dana International 's identity was not quite a clean cut either.

Mar 4, 2015 at 6:47 PM | Unregistered CommenterGolf Charlie

Bernie 1815, no, I can't do links!

"....and either constitutes a lapse"

Mentioning lapse rates is just cruel. Finding oil funding in DeSmog is so much easier with Hoggan's client list. If it's not oil companies funding the Green Blob, it's tax payers, and until Concerned Scientists(TM) lobby for changes to 501(c)(3) changes, disclosure isn't going to improve.
