Mar 22, 2015 Climate: Parliament Climate: WG2 The Daily Caller is reporting that President Obama may just have bought himself a beachfront mansion in Hawaii. This is very nice for him, but a bit unfortunate since for several years the great man has been warning that the USA is in imminent danger from sea-level rises.
In his 2015 State of the Union speech, Obama said “we’ll continue to see rising oceans, longer, hotter heat waves, dangerous droughts and floods.”
In 2013, Obama said that “seas will slowly keep rising and storms will get more severe, based on the science” — one of the reasons why he’s imposing regulations on carbon dioxide emissions from coal plants.
It's like Al Gore all over again. The words says one thing and the deeds say something else entirely.

Like Al Gore, Obama after being president will fly first class all over the world telling people the evils of flying. What did it say in Animal Farm (paraphrasing) - everyone is equal but the greenies are more equal than others.
When you are saving the planet nothing you do is wrong, even tax avoidance!

Hypocrites, the lot of them. Do as I say, not as I do. On the one hand the likes of Gore and Obama are trying to drive down the value of beachfront property with their scare stories. On the other hand they are buying up beachfront property at knockdown prices.
Al Gore's mansion.. one of . is actually quite a few metres above sea level.. (still massive carbon dioxide footprint)
If the pics I have seen of 0'bummer's new purchase are true, it is right on sea level.

As he was born in Hawaii what is more natural than to do your best to drive down beach side property prices in your home state where your family reside and then buy one? A perfect plan. he's learnt from a master - Al Gore.
It looks like one of his super rich cronies is buying the property.
I'm not sure hypocrisy is quite the right description.
Most of the warmist gang appear to suffer from what looks like a 21st century epidemic of total lack of self-awareness. Either that or schizophrenia.
Their ability to act in complete contrast to the way which they would have the rest of us behave while claiming that such behaviour is essential for the future of mankind and the planet really is quite breath-taking.
I agree with Mike Jackson, the behaviour is more unconscious than some suggest. All warmists have a weird relationship with fossil fuels. They give themselves points because they're spreading the message and truly think that the only thing between them and a non CO2 energy network is sceptics. One could call them the D word. They shy away from their own culpability and are almost aggressive in ignoring the most hypocritical offenders. It's another example of the kind of thinking that blames everyone else for societies ills and allows the thinker to be the victim not the perpetrator.
Left leaning people are particularly prone to this in that they blame those above them for hogging all the riches but right people are susceptible too thinking if it wasn’t for all those little breeders, we’d not be using so many resources supporting them.

Re. hypocrisy versus schizophrenia, I think that Mike Jackson is right, but the explanation is not all that elusive. The likes of Gore and Obama love to give us lectures from their teleprompters, but what they really wish is that we didn't exist in the first place.
There is currently a campaign in the US, I understand, aimed at removing Andrew Jackson from the $20 note and replacing him with a female "icon". Prominent among the suggested names: Margaret Sanger and Rachel Carson, both notorious, in their respective ways, for making lots of human beings go away.

CharmingQuark (9:23 AM): tax avoidance is NOT wrong – indeed, there are many who aver that is our beholden DUTY to avoid paying tax as much as we can! It is tax EVASION that is wrong; the subtle mixing of the two is a good way to make sure that anyone who makes honest attempts to reduce the theft by the government that taxation is fear the contempt of their fellows.

And like so may others of their kind, making "the lot" of human beings a lot less pleasant.
While the 19th/20th centuries arguably made the lot of a lot (sorry about this) of human beings considerably better off, in all the ways that are generally considered desirable — education, health, wealth sufficient to allow a certain amount of leisure and the ability in one's last years to retire from hard labour, and with all that the facility to consider caring for the environment — there was always an undercurrent of disdain (fear as well?) which came primarily not from the "upper classes" who were much more likely to see the working man, albeit a bit patronisingly perhaps, as the "salt of the earth" but from the new middle-class pseudo-intellectuals (the Bloomsbury/Hampstead axis of the Fabians and the fin de siècle art nouveau crowd).
These were the ones who thought they were "progressives" while fearing progress. Since they never understood science properly it was something to be feared and if possible stopped in its tracks though they were always happy to make the best use of it even while pretending they were living the simple life.
They still exist as the oil-based detritus left behind at every protest camp amply demonstrates.
The likes of Maurice Strong and the Club of Rome and more recently Wirth, Pachauri and others are the natural heirs.
Gore, Suzuki and Grantham of course are just in it for what they can get out of it. They don't actually want us to "go away" because our labour is their pension plan!

"tax avoidance is NOT wrong" - it is not illegal but whether it is wrong depends on your point of view.
Many of the political parties including the Green Party have said tax avoidance is wrong.
He could always tell the tide to stay out like King Canute (or Cnut) did. Then he would not have to worry about the sea level rising.
Of course Canute did not think he could control the tides. He was just tired of all the flattery from a*** lickers at his court. I assume there are similar sycophants at the court of Obama. Does he get tired of them, I wonder?

Forget terrorism something else that these little Pacific / Indian Ocean island exotic destinations think about when they re in Paris ,more Carbon Tax on Airfares and wrecking their tourist industries.

Of course, one cannot but wonder what option is less preferable. Hypocrisy, lack of self awareness... or simply a desire to better the world while being utterly incompetent not only to actually do something constructive but to even begin to comprehend the issues involved.
After all, have we not all noticed that, oftentimes, the very formulation of a coherent account of a given problem is beyond this lot? For instance, listen to Obama for what he really is (a dignified late night talk show host) and consider if there is any substantial meaning to what the man is going on about.
CharmingQuark: each to their own, I suppose. I do try to do everything that I can to avoid paying my hard-earned wages to the bunch of shysters occupying office at whatever time. I know how to spend my money a darn sight better than they know how to spend other peoples’.
If we do have to have tax, why not try the unavoidable Land Value Tax? No-one can avoid paying it, thus the burden for everyone in general is reduced. One snag: it is too simple; there would be no need for an army of tax assessors and collectors, nor would there be a similar army of accountants picking at the cloth to gain their cut – in other words, there would be a lot of people whose sole means of income would disappear (thus saving the tax-payer even more money).
To build on AndyG55's point, Al Gore's "beachfront" mansion is 3km inland from the coast, and about 60 meters above sea level. Al deserves criticism for many things, but not for this.

This one is analogous to the misunderstanding of 'hide the decline'. The mass of the great unwashed have heard the phrase but don't understand it. They do understand that it is not good science, and the purveyors are untrustworthy.
Similarly, few seem to know where Al Gore's house is, but they know his purchase of it is hypocritical.

Beachfront or not, is less important issue than these properties usually being one of several the men own and vastly larger than they need.
