Rock 'n' roll
Today I'm off to Inverness, to the Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival. This is a proper festival with a bill topped by Tom Jones and Razorlight and featuring those other rock 'n' roll giants, the Singing Kettle. Somewhere down near the bottom of the bill (and in a font so small as to be invisible) are John Shade and I. We are appearing in a panel debate about global warming, which takes place in the "Verb Garden" tent - a sort of festival within a festival, focusing on the spoken word.
We are up against a meteorologist and a green energy chap if I remember correctly, and I'm sure we will need our wits about us. John and I will therefore have to refrain from spliffs and groupies in the backstage area beforehand.
The things I do for the cause...

Good luck with it.
I trust your day goes well.
I hope the content of the spliffs is organically grown. None of this artificial light and chemical fertiliser crap.
the bbc has been using all their powder on antisemitism imagery the last few weeks, so people will be less brainwashed on warming I guess.
Thrash them.
TerryS, absolutely right. You can't beat natural photons.
Beam love at them and that'll confound and confuse ☺
Give up spliffs, yes. But groupies? I don't think so!
Bishop just in case you,re asked ( hot topic up there ) are you for or against independence ?
What if an independent Scottish government obviously other than Alex Salmond free of EU, English legislation adopted the Australian Tony Abbott approach no Green Carbon Taxes / Subsidies ?
Hope it goes well and you enjoy your day in Snechie. Give my regards to John.
Ask the green energy chap to run through the info displayed on this site:
http://www.gridwatch.templar.co.uk/
That should lead to questions about where the energy, particularly in Salmond's wind utopia, will come from when the windmills are stationary.
Pehaps a nice big reefer ready for the end of your presentation :D
Good luck!
don't suppose Lord Deben will turn up to join in the debate:)
Try lighting a soggy deep fried spliff.
Back to the independence debate
Scotland was the birthplace of Capitalism Adam Smith.
England was the birthplace of Socialism Karl Marx.
English Socialism just dragged Scotland down stiffed Scottish innovation and enterprize.
Luckily the Scots had Oil and somewhere to park nuclear submarines.
Alex Salmond is hoping for an Independent Scotland living off EU handouts.
Good luck with it! Knock 'em for 6!
@ jamspid: Marx was German, as was Engels! He, like Lenin, & Guevara, et al, were from very wealthy middle-class backgrounds! (Guevara trained as a Dr - would want him going anyway near me with a scalpel!) Why is it the ones who have plenty, tell everyone else they should have less, & aspire to little? Why is it they who possess much material wealth tell everyone else that materialism is bad for us? Now on the other hand, if I was having a usual Friday afternoon moan session complaining about my lot, & a pauper with little told me to quit moaning & be thankful for what I'd got it would be a different story!!!!
"refrain from spliffs and groupies"
I'm sure her Ladyship will be mightily relieved...
I do hope you don't suffer having old lady's knickers thrown at you as you're mistaken for big Tom (an easy mistake to make - some say).
Challenge EVERYTHING they come out with...
I'm a-feared that the young lady on the Home page in catmask and tartan bikini is going to catch her death of cold - especially as 'Ex-Bertha' is about to blow through...
Marx and Engels were given political asylum by the British government around 1850. Same war as 1914-18, but somewhat earlier.
I liked the tag-line for the debate: "If you can't stand the heat, at least quit the bitchin",
although I'm tempted to ask, "what heat?"...
At least you'll be under cover, 'Bertha's coming through!!
Good luck.
OT:
Anyone else not been able to open Watts Up With That for the last few hours?
(Firefox, Windows 7, in the UK if that makes a difference)

Haven't been able get onto any wordpress site (Google Chrome) for about 12 hours.
First BishopHill gets slowed now WUWT is unavailable. Do I detect a conspiracy? Are we under attack?

Same OS; same browser, but French based. No problem here with WUWT
Anything is possible
...or with my own or my daughter's blogs which are also with Wordpress.

No problem with WUWT or Tallbloke here in Sussex. Chromebook/Chrome.
When I got that message, I clicked on "webmaster" It didn't appear to do anything, but 10 minutes later the problem was fixed.
Hope this is of help to anyone experiencing similar issues.
WUWT back up now for me.
Anthony, Jo, Tallbloke and here all accessible without problems.
Don't know about this afternoon, I had the Beeb's cricket page open for my delight. ;-)
Even i know Karl Marx was German but i don't credit him with inventing the BMW 7 Series.
Bish
I see the meteorologist on the panel was Dr Eddie Graham. He and I were in the Reading University Meteorology Department together years ago, and he really knows his stuff. I hope it was a good discussion.

Giving revolutionaries like Marx and Engels political asylum was an act of aggression against a rising economic competitor. Engels owned an Audi dealership in Hackney. Is that what you were thinking of ?
Truly admire your discipline before the debate.
I trust you made up for lost time afterwards - groupies tend to be a loyal bunch and well supplied with recreational chemicals.
Political Junkie
"well supplied with recreational chemicals."
That's how old men like us can still be sex gods.
Site is very slow (10-20 seconds delay) to come up, using Windows 7/Chrome from California--Climate Audit, Tallbloke, and WUWT come up instantly

True - but thanks to his ideology we did get the Trabant.
Or at least those who had that ideology forced on them did..............

This is what a rabid form of capitalism did to Detroit.

Not forgetting Wounded Knee, Hiroshima, Nagasaki, Vietnam, Israel, Iran Contra, the Salvadorian death squads, Fallujah and the destruction of Britain from 1980 onwards. Everything comes with a price.
