Greens go violent
The BBC is reporting that an employee of an unconventional gas company in Northern Ireland has had his home petrol bombed.
The company exploring for shale gas in County Fermanagh has confirmed that the family home of one of its site workers has been attacked with petrol bombs.
Two petrol bombs were thrown at the house in Letterbreen during the early hours of Sunday, but no-one was hurt.
The fracking firm, Tamboran, said it followed a number of unlawful incidents and threats to its security staff.
Staff were threatened at a quarry in Belcoo, where Tamboran is intending to drill a gas exploration borehole.
Greenpeace, Friends of the Earth. They all sound so nice, don't they?

……… as if the very idea of blowing people up for political reasons was a completely new concept for her.
The Greens were never nice. Like most zealots, they are violently opposed to anything that contradicts their religion. Heretics must be sought out and burned!
They are intolerant to any alternative nor to the consequences of their policies.
Millions of children dying from malaria (DDT "banned"), native people run off land so that rich tourists can give money to safe large mammals and get fluffy toys, fuel poverty, etc.
But they are saving the planet - but who is going to save us!
Petrol bombed?
That doesn’t seem appropriate for a green group who spurn fossil fuels. Maybe they should have tried sunflower oil instead.
I'm still working on a name for WWF that will allow the acronym WTF!
In their heads, these people will think they are completely justified. Like some kind of Eco Jack Bauer, they have been led to believe by what they think is the scientific and academic establishment that the world is in imminent danger and that it can be saved if only certain people weren't in the way. This is the legacy of the grant grubbing hysteria fraternity and they either need to unreservedly condemn such action or come clean about the fact that the situation isn't anywhere near as serious (or likely) as they like to present.
I need humour to deal with this otherwise I'm going to be in a rage all day. So...

Couldn't they leave a dead rodent on the chap's doorstep and drive away in a yellow humvee?
(Less evidence and less chance of killing innocent people).
Hypocrites.
The least they could have done is attacked him with a solar or wind-powered weapon. I mean, think of the planet, guys!

Jiffy-Bag full of poo ? = bio + recyclable too!

Weird Wildlife Fund ?
THEY probably call it "civil disobedience"?
Just another phrase for "the end justifies the means".
Wonder if Henry David Thoreau would approve...and if that's what he meant...
I think it is highly unwise to speculate upon who might have carried out this crime. It would prevent a few red faces should this have nothing to do with fracking.
@Mike Jackson: I've always referred to it as the WWtF (the extra 't' does it for me).
Bearing in mind the solemn anniversary that we recall today I found this paragraph from an article in the DM with a quote from Sebastian Faulkes to be quite apt, given today's green inhumanity to man:
The world, I find, is once again going 'collectively mad', but this time it is the Green monster that reminds us of 'the kinds of creatures human beings really are'.
It could never have happened without the fossil fuel industry.
A water pistol would have been more environmentally friendly!
This is Northern Ireland. The locals tend to throw petrol bombs at anyone who disagrees with them. It is one of our cultural tradition.
There has been the usual rash of arson attacks on Orange halls, catholic churches and political party offices this Summer. Someone must have had a petrol bomb spare.
A lithium ion battery dropped in a bucket of water would have been more environmentally friendly. Why would they use Petrol?
“We know who you are. We know where you live. We know where you work.
And we be many, but you be few.”

Well, we all knew eventually they would resort to terrorism rather than provocation and harrasment.
They're losing this one and they're getting desperate.

Personal view is the UK population is being subjected to the equivalent of the slow boiling of frogs, hope it's not too late for some to jump out of the pot.
The general level of price gauging in the UK is incredible when viewed from outside of the country, I have two recent examples.
Last week I booked a rental car for an upcoming trip to Blighty for a family wedding. I mistakenly first tried to book the vehicle from what turned out to be a UK resident only site, The cost would have been 880 pounds, fortunately the site would not complete the booking when I tried to submit my Canadian credit card to secure the reservation. I then found the international site for the same company, I now have a reservation for the same car and for the same duration at a cost of 660 pounds, a fully apples for apples comparison re taxes etc.
Last month a friends wife had to go back to the UK, London, when her mother died unexpectedly. Being unsure of the length of the trip she purchased a one way ticket here in Calgary. When she made her reservation to return to Calgary using the same airline, the same route and the same class of flight she ended up paying a full 80% more than she had for the flight to the UK. Both purchases were simple walk in and fly today tickets, taxation differences would only account for about 20% of the difference.
How long will the people of the UK put up with not only the lack of a viable energy strategy but what appears to be a plan to destroy the economy. Take a look at the last review of national debt levels by the Economist. For 2014 Canada and the UK are both reported as having a national debt equivalent to a nominal 85% of GDP, the forecast for 2015 is for Canada's number to drop by a small amount, about 1% whilst the UK's number blows out to over 100% of GDP. Not sustainable, the brick wall is getting closer at a high velocity.
Recently I read an article that Greenpeace was using LEGOs to influence children to buy into its hysteria campaign against energy companies. This this prompted me to suggest that LEGO design a "Greenpeace Pirate" set which would include the Rainbow Warrior Pirate ship and an oil platform for the pirates to attack. Given this news on petro bombing, LEGO might want its designers to start thinking about an eco-terrorist LEGO set.
exposing them for what they are : terrorists.
find your extremist, wind them up with green BS and off they go !
The funding must be going well this year, a pint of petrol is bl**dy expensive

I must second this view until all the facts are in. There is a whiff of the witch-hunt in this thread and it ain't nice whoever is doing the hunting.
For all we know it might only be a disgruntled husband giving it to his wife's bit on the side?!!
Knowing Northern Ireland well and the fact that Fermanagh is full of gangsters (it's border land so it is rife with guys smuggling petrol and doing all sorts of cross border scams), I would not be surprised if there was some sort of scam or protection racket behind this.
Even so, the MP seems to imply that she thinks it could be related to anti-fracking opposition.
'The MP for the area, Sinn Féin's Michelle Gildernew, said someone could have been seriously injured and she "unreservedly" condemned the attack. "While the vast majority of people in Fermanagh and further afield oppose fracking, this is not the way to express that opposition," she said. Ms Gildernew said her party was "totally opposed to fracking and will block any proposals to frack in Fermanagh if and when that comes before the executive."'

In Texas the bomb thrower would have to be much more accurate and be able to run very fast.
I guess it is unlikely that the perpetrator will be found.
But, if they are, a defence that they were 'only trying to prevent fracking = rape of Gaia' will be entirely adequate to get them off the hook. With fawning pieces broadcast by the Beeb and published by the Grauniad.
When was the last time a Greenie was found guilty of anything?
This story makes the news in Washington. Which links to an article at the Independent.
It might be nothing to do with the planned shale wells, although it's rather strange that the MP and anti-fracking groups while disassociating thematic trees assume that it does. They seem to have decided that the "vast majority" are against shale gas and oil on the basis of no evidence at all.
Thematic trees = themselves from, dammed swipe keyboard.

- Which reminds me. Amongst all of the continuing furore over 'Phone Hacking', the fact that the Guardian's David Leigh openly admitted to doing it - and teaching and encouraging his students to do it (!) remains unprosecuted and without consequence to his career seems to have been forgotten. When challenged, he claimed a "public interest" defence that appears to have been passively accepted.
I have one hundred per cent sympathy for the victims of this violence, but could their employers not have arrived at a better name than "Tamboran"? Short of "Vesuvian", or "Krakatoan" (or, maybe, "Toban", or "Santorinian"), they could hardly have chosen anything more apocalyptic.
Don't worry guys Look to Aus to see what happens when they are caught. From Henry Ergas via Andrew Bolt.
‘‘IF you are going to steal,’’ they say in America, ‘‘steal big.’’ Jonathan Moylan did just that: by issuing a fraudulent ANZ press release claiming the bank had withdrawn its support from the Maules Creek mining project, he knocked $300 million off the market capitalisation of Whitehaven Coal.
But far from imposing the maximum penalty for market manipulation of 10 years in jail, the NSW Supreme Court has now let him off with a gentle slap on the wrist, releasing him from a sentence of 20 months’ imprisonment in exchange for $1000 and a two-year good behaviour period.
Moylan, you see, is a green; and although “the market was manipulated, vast amounts of shares were unnecessarily traded and some investors lost their investment entirely”, the court concluded leniency was warranted, as the anti-coal activist, who has a long string of trespass offences to his name, did not act for or obtain a personal financial gain.
No, Moylan wasn’t motivated by a thirst for yachts, fast cars and the company of starlets. He gets his kicks dreaming of a world without coal.
But if fanaticism excuses crime, are jihadists now entitled to issue misleading financial information about Jewish-owned companies in their quest for the global caliphate?
Or is there one law for the zealots of Gaia and another for everyone else?

This could stop the anti-frackers.

From what I have read above, I am beginning to wonder just exactly what crime a greenalist has to commit before they are actually found guilty of anything! Fraud, theft, damage to property, violence & assault, rape, gang-rape, murder, mass murder? I wonder if the perps actually had the brains to realize the irony of using a fossil fuel bomb! I suppose there is some hope out there as last I heard it was still policy (peak of the troubles) to shoot on site anyone with a petrol bomb!
@kellydown
"thematic trees" Bristlecone Pines I assume?
I'm reminded of this episode of 'green' over-activism:
from wikipedia -
"Against a background of ongoing protest and low-level sabotage, on the night of January 18, 1982 an RPG-7 rocket-propelled grenade attack was launched against the unfinished [Superphenix] plant. Five rockets were fired across the Rhône at the incomplete containment building. Two rockets hit and caused minor damage to the reinforced concrete outer shell, missing the reactor's empty core. Initially there were no claims of responsibility. On May 8, 2003, Chaïm Nissim, who in 1985 was elected to the Geneva cantonal government for the Swiss Green Party, eventually admitted carrying out the attack. He claimed that the weapons were obtained from Carlos the Jackal via the Belgian terrorist organisation Cellules Communistes Combattantes (Communist Combatant Cells)."
Again the communists! Now of course nuclear power (and fast breeders in particular) are in vogue with many new environmentalists since disillusioned with solar, wind, hydro etc. I've noticed the manmade-climate-change campaign could easily have been renamed as 'the greenwashing of nuclear power' but I'm in danger of being labelled a conspiracy theorist from some fly-by lefty troll.
Yes, whether it is Kingsnorth Power Station, Drax, Ratcliffe (Where the protesters were exhonerated and indeed compensated and lionised because some special branch plod had 'gone native'); whether Lord Melchett and his GM crop trial trampling chums, whether La Lucas and the other frack off protesters, the Plane Stupid bunch and many others - all have been given the Greenie 'get out of jail free' cards.
Corrupt and venal posturing politicos are, no doubt, grateful for their efforts.
And with all the talk of 'Climate Debt', how long before this steps up another gear or two? Internationally?
Meanwhile, I would caution anyone reading on here against even a perfectly gentlemanly 'protest' against, say, a windfarm. Dartmoor awaits!
They even got out of jail free after boarding a Russian oil rig.
Licenses for Personal Protection Weapon are still issued in NI. Id bugger off to the PSNI for an application if i worked there after this
The most laughable thing about all the opposition is that they're drilling in a quarry. It's like objecting to a blood sample needle in a gaping shrapnel wound. Do they really think fracking (not scheduled for this well at all) would be worse than blasting in a quarry which they apparently lived with quite happily for years? Are any of the dopey journalists publicising these nutters even asking that question?
Fred at 10:33 PM
I totally agree. Living in Northern Ireland and having been through some of the late unpleasantness here in the service of the Queen I have to say this is very likely to be something related to a protection racket or "we can provide you with security for a wee fee".
Some years ago an old school friend, who had left this dump and got a job working for one of the big UK supermarket chains in England experienced this first hand. The peace process started and Tesco, Sainsburys etc all came over here to open big stores. The local chains (Crazy Prices, Stewarts) were gladly bought out and their smaller sites levelled to build the usual big glass clones. My old school friend was happily working away opening new supermarkets for this chain all over England when one day his boss told him he was going home to get a store built at what is now called Forest Side, Belfast. To cut a long story short he was on site during the build and had a budget to pay off some local chaps who insisted on being paid or else; This was the 1990s
Another more recent incident comes to mind: New hotel being built between Great Victoria Street and Sandy Row, a joiner I know told me the same thing is still happening. Considering the incident the Bishop mentions is in Fermanagh I think it is more likely some locals want some money. The eco loons are much too sissy to play down there. AFAIK in this neck of the woods arson of this nature (trying to set fire to someones home) carries a life sentence.
Whoever dunit, it goes to show that doing anything effective requires fossil fuels.
This was always bound to happen, certain members of the Animal Liberation Front types will always find a cause that gives them a reason to act.
