I was genuinely shaken by this - although, thinking about the behaviour of some of our anti-fracking crowd, I suppose it's not all that surprising.
I watched some of the videos of Barton Moss and found the genuine hate there surprising.
The trouble is that the green movement has given a lot of anti-social types a sort of "moral licence" for thuggery.
I am struggling to believe this. I would suggest taking this post down unless/until you are very very sure of your source.

Having been on the receiving end of a couple of in-person raving spittle attacks (in reaction to mildly delivered criticism) I have no difficulty whatsoever in believing this.
It is the logical consequence of the intense indoctrination the weak minded acolytes are subjected to.

It's not just the anti social types who get attracted to the anti-fracking campaigns, it's the plain nutty types too. The latest hype of the police attacking a protester is nothing of the sort and is more a person with mental health issues using the protest for their own victimhood purposes.
Dr Steven Speers (a PhD, not a real one) pretends to be an intelligent person by saying he is an electronics engineer when in actual fact he denies the 7/7 bombings, claiming they were a government job, just like 911 "truthers", believes the Illuminati were planning an "event" at the 2012 Olympics, is well known to the police, and is not an independent lawful observer (which has no legal basis in law).

I can't agree that it looks "peaceful enough." I've encountered burglars in my own house, and I can tell you that such things are not peaceful, even if no blows are exchanged. Masked protesters with banners proclaiming their intention to "attack" do so purely to intimidate - to intimidate the immediate victim and the rest of us too (they know where we live, etc).
I guess the inner greenshirt must out, in the end.

I saw the stuff about the "Lawful observer" at Barton Moss. As usual the police made a complete mess of a simple situation. He should have been detained under the Mental Health Act, not clumsily fitted up for a drunk driving charge.
Hamish, that is one scary video. Maki is one hell of a brave person to talk with them without once raising his voice or show any emotion. The scary thing is that that the protesters at Barton Moss and their friends like Occupy apologist Tina Rothery probably think the home invaders in Texas were doing the right thing because they are right. The protesters in Texas like to quote Upton, but other sayings match their work, like the ends justify the means. The protesters at Barton do the same thing in intimidating the iGas workers by writing down their number plates as they leave work and delaying them by hours when all they want to do is go home to their families and loved ones.
This is just the beginning of a wave of what should be defined as domestic terrorism aimed at our energy infrastructure. I would label them as such through legislation, disband all these groups behind them like WWF and Greenpeace, seize all their assets under forfeiture laws and throw their top leaders in prison for a lengthy sentence.
Now this probably sounds quite extreme to most of you but a country's energy system is it's economic lifeblood and attacking it is tantamount to purposefully causing injury that can become quite severe. No one or no group should be allowed to inflict this injury without severe penalty.
Just my two cents.

These guys are really ignorant and angry.
At around 3:00 mark one of the guys explains that he has to do yoga every morning, whether he wants to or not. Why? Because that is the only way he can make sure those chemicals don't stay in his body. Its the only way he can combat it. Because he cannot get nutricious food where he lives. He cannot grow it. And his mother is sick.
And it is all Maki's fault.
And what is even more disgusting and sad is the fact that a public figure, a front stage fighter for the environment, is airily tweeting about it.
Well, it's not a burning cross on his lawn, but in the southern united states such acts could easily be associated with some ugly history. The protestors are probably not doing their cause a favor.
Shades of the anti-animal testing terrorists intimidating executives, researchers and their families. Just horrible.
The thing that politicians and companies who get into bed with greenies don't understand is that they are insatiable. They are the wolverines of politics. Every meal is just a milestone along the way.

They, TPTB have sanitized kids, fed them pap and global warming virtually since they were born, pictures of wandering 'sad' polar bears and a melting berg or two pulls on the heart strings, evidently, these types of eco warrior, they think more about a pretty savage wild bear than they do of society and people. Furthermore, these people have no idea of the principles of social order, still less ethics - "it's my way or no way!" Our government, particularly the EU and their little helpers fly all over the world to 'protest' at climate conferences and it only takes a nutter or two to start believing the hype........ and - agitprop marches back - is responsible for fomenting and succouring this type of behaviour, that's what greenery [any excuse actually] is - a new orthodox and wound up they certainly are, wind em up and watch them tick.
It's eye opening, but and I say this very guardedly, do we not have to descend to their level in some respects - by adopting some strategy and tactics of our own? A mass civil disobedience has been suggested to me in the past, ie, if everyone stopped paying the Beeb licence fees perhaps TPTB might stop, sit up and take notice?
Lets face it, democracy needs fixing but until then - voting does no good.
I wouldn't be too concerned. Unlike the UK's disarmed and helpless citizenry, Texans are armed to the teeth and not shy about defending themselves. The trespassers are the ones who should be worried.

agouts, it's not Greenpeace that needs demonstrators interfering with it's ability to carry out it's lawful work, it's Lush and the CoOp bank. They are the ones who support Occupy and other right on Green groups in a mistaken view that they are helping the right cause. Occupy are the group behind Barton Moss and other anti-fracking camps. How would Lush like it if it had people standing outside it's shops with banners saying "baby killer" for the poisonous fumes from its shops [well the fumes are suffocating].

Anyone with experience of SHAC and their activities will recognise this behaviour. The tactics are the same and in the UK at least there is every chance that in some cases the individuals are the same.
The stated objectives are irrelevant; the protests are meaningless; the aim is destruction pure and simple. Look at that quote that Adam Gallon cites above. Exactly WTF is "ecological suffering"?
Those who take part in actions like this have no positivity; they are against everything and that is the worry because trying to take any action is like trying to bottle fog. As soon as you get close they move on to something new and they don't really care whether or not they "win" as the animal rights protests of the 80s and 90s demonstrate. They achieved nothing except the disruption of other people's lives to no purpose. When they tired of threatening (and in some cases causing the death of) people whose, totally legal, activities they disapproved of they simply wandered off to a new "cause".
They may or may not be interested in changing the world, for sure they have absolutely no wish to use legal means to do it. They are simply serial thugs.

Sorry, that's completely wrong. Doctorate holders have earned the use of the title - in medicine 'doctor' is a courtesy title unless the user has also completed an appropriate higher degree. In some jurisdictions, e.g. Germany, this distinction is recognised by medics being called Arzt rather than Doktor.
Have a look at the video of the “protest”; good to see Maki’s first question to those protesting at the “exploitation of oil was: “How did you get here?” One of the brighter sparks immediately saw that trap, but others happily fell into many more of their own making. An alarming confrontation, where rhetoric and emotion trumps science and sound reasoning. Look forward [sic] to more like this.
It is easier to form a raggedy line than a cogent argument.

I ran across a fracking discussion on Facebook and dove in for a few minutes. The anti-fracking nutters are incredibly fact resistant. Like CO2 kooks, they have found their source of self worth and life meaning to be based on the wickedness of humanity and their enlightenment empowering them and their self-selected friends to do something about that wickedness.
...And the police are - where, exactly..?
