The ice holds up

Perhaps it's because it's the season of goodwill. Or perhaps because Greenpeace's vandalism of the Nazca lines has put Corporation noses out of joint. Whatever the reason, the BBC's decision to highlight the recovery in Arctic sea ice levels in the last few years represents a rare excursion out of its "OMG we're all about to fry" comfort zone.

Yes, the sea ice is going to disappear, we are told, but on much longer timescales than previously advised.

While global warming seems to have set the polar north on a path to floe-free summers, the latest data from Europe's Cryosat mission suggests it may take a while yet to reach those conditions.

The spacecraft observed 7,500 cu km of ice cover in October when the Arctic traditionally starts its post-summer freeze-up.

This was only slightly down on 2013 when 8,800 cu km were recorded.

Two cool summers in a row have now allowed the pack to increase and then hold on to a good deal of its volume.

DMI also recently updated their Greenland Ice Model, which had been over estimating the loss of ice on Greenland.

The model has been updated 20 May 2014 and now gives a better picture of what happens with the meltwater. Earlier a large amount of the meltwater was treated as loss in the form of runoff from the ice sheet. The new model is better at taking into account the part of the meltwater that refreezes on its way to the coast, and this then remains a part of the ice sheet.

So not only has Arctic Ice been showing a recovery so has Greenland, and according to the graphs in the link below the growth this winter is particularly impressive.

Be very careful destroying icicles. WWF and Greenpeace want them on the UN endangered species list.

This followed a sweltering fact finding trip to the Seychelles, as they noticed that, despite the new airport, the sea level, was not rising, they still had to leave their hotels to get to the beach, BUT the ice in their exotic cocktails still melted.

They did notice that if they shouted loudly enough, someone would appear, as if by magic, with more ice, for their cocktails, and reasonably concluded, that if everbody shouted louder and louder, the poles would be fixed.

The last few years evidence have proved them right, justiifying their need for more fact finding trips to exotic beaches, when it is winter at home.

I burbled about this in Discussions a few weeks ago.

This graph suggests to me that the warmistas might have a serious problem:

It's early days yet... but the shape of the graph is very suggestive of an imminent large recovery of Arctic ice. A vertical line running through 2010 gives a rather pleasing symmetry.

How is this 'slightly down'? Innumerate arts grad Beeboid typo?

I'm surprised that WWF, FoE, GP etc haven't organised a campaign for the punters to donate their old duvets and pillows to protect the ice from rising global temperatures.

But on a more serious note, is there any real public independent accountability into how much of the money that these organisations harvest from their poor polar bears/penguins/snow leopards ad campaigns actually benefits the targets, or gets trousered for their executives/activists junkets?

Time and again and very loudly, the warmist loonies have been trumpeting from the rooftops and declaiming the "death spiral" of Arctic sea ice and by convenient but scurrilous and uncorrelated implication "GLOBAL WARMING IS HAPPENING!"

The foremost among a rather large group of doom mongering alarmist advertizers are of course - the BBC. Jeepers H in a sidecar, what has brought this awful admission - wrung out of the chief promulgators of the great scam, have they taken leave of their senses [did they have any sense in the first place]?

Mind you, there has been no major headline news broadcast - oh so very quietly did they release this revelation and on an obscure web page and that really says it all about the primary vehicle of man made Global Warming - aka the BBC. Still pulling the wool over peoples eyes.......... after all these years. Some of us however, have noted it. The illiberal Metropolitan middle class numpties who run and pervade this organization have not gone away and evidently - the BBC still pumps out garbage about most things, cr*p social engineering programming but especially they fill the air waves and our television screens with tales and mythology concerning the non event called man made warming.

The bbc needs to be culled, chopped up and privatized and all those useless managers and cossetted luvvies need to commence to seek alternative employment - out in the real world. Only then perhaps, might we witness a CAGW climb down by the Westminster claque - once that is, their massive left wing echo chamber has been closed down for good.

Alarmists are always claiming the Arctic Sea Ice is the "canary in the coal mine." Wrong. Arctic ice extent varies a a lot for a lot of reasons. Predictions of its disappearing because of rising CO2 are another attempt to use a natural process as proof to advocate for fossil fuel reductions.

My references, among many others, show that the factors causing Arctic Ice to lessen, when that was happening, have nothing to do with air temperatures whcih is the only way CO2 could have an effect (theoretically).

The melting is much more the result of water circulations, especially when warm Atlantic water from the south is able, or not, to get into the Arctic Ocean.

President Barry has healed the earth slowing sea level rise, stopping the warming, and regrowing the ice. Please bow down.

Oh, its due to 'cool summers' is it..?

One of those 'cool summers' being in the 'hottest year ever'....

(I am tempted to say that the Beeb hasn't got a f......g clue, but being a nice person I will resist the temptation...)

My late Welsh mother-in-law had an appropriate expression: 'He talks as his belly guides him...'
