Diary dates
Aug 6, 2013 Climate: other
In Unthreaded, Paul Matthews notes a couple of dates for your diaries:
Tamsin is on Radio 4 tonight at 8pm, along with Lawson and others, in a programme about science and politics.
There is a "Google Hangout" (whatever that means) tomorrow at 9 EDT which I think is 2pm our time, on the science/advocacy debate, with Judith C, Richard B and Gavin S.

The Google Hangout is tomorrow and World Time Buddy confirms as 2pm BST.
A "Google hangout". Sorry, I have an appointment to have my eyes struck out with a hot poker.
A Google hangout is a way to communicate via your very own video conference on your android phone or tablet. We use it quite a lot for family communications.
Richard I'm going. I've let a few people know that are on my list. 20 guests at the moment, but we need more.
To join just sign up for a gmail account and opt for google + plus and you can join any Hang Out.

Sounds too much like the 'gooly hangout' you might experience with a pair of ill-fitting Y-fronts.
I didn't know this programme was on but I caught part of it. There was generally a fair range of views expressed but yet again the esteemed Paul Nurse made an absolute fool of himself. Either he is simply so ignorant of the sceptics position (according to him someone who denies climate change) or he is being deliberately obtuse. Either way he is bringing the Royal Society into disrepute. Surely it's time someone within the Royal Society had a strong word in his ear about the damage he is doing.
Today's Google Hang Out
This is the archive video of the full Google+ Hangout on 8/7/13:
Should climate scientists advocate for policy?
Featuring Gavin Schmidt, Judith Curry, and Richard Betts

And the Guardian article which sparked this debate is here:

Perhaps we should have a Google Hang Out. It seems simple enough to do.
