An Epistle from Balcombe - Josh 234

Let's hope the wonderful letter from Alison Stevenson, Chairman of the Balcombe Parish Council, will get some attention from both the 'No dash for Gas' protestors at Balcombe and the mainstream media. Slim chance, of course, but one has to do one's bit.

Perhaps Balcombe Parish Council could (ironically) consult the Friends of the Earth website, which offers a very helpful guide on how to get rid of the nuisance 'protesters' expected from 16th to 21st August.

"How is statutory nuisance defined?

To fall within the definition of statutory nuisance, an activity needs to be, or be likely to be: a nuisance, or prejudicial to health.

A nuisance is defined in the legislation as the unacceptable interference with the personal comfort or amenity of neighbours or the nearby community. "

Helpfully, FoE further explains:-

"What type of activity might be regarded as a statutory nuisance?

Activities which might be caught by the definition of statutory nuisance are:-

The physical state of premises (in some cases the definition of premises includes land, .........)

Any accumulation or deposit which is prejudicial to health or a nuisance (eg rubbish) Noise coming from ...... equipment in a street"

This latest development does not actually move the (regrettably very real ) debate about fracking in GB any further forward in any way but it is hard not to find it pretty funny.

AlecM, 11.07:

I liked the title used by Alison Stevenson in her letter: 'Chairman' - not 'Chair' or 'Chairperson'. To me that speaks worlds, as does her final statement, " It is duly uninvited".

Educated.

re: an Epistle

upstaged by the CofE?

I won't repeat my unthreaded post but it certainly looks cartoonworthy....

Alison Stevenson seems to be a descendant of Bertie's Aunt Dahlia. You go, girl!

For those who are fogged by this reference, I commend the works of P G Wodehouse in re Bertie Wooster. "Joy in the Morning" is a good starting point.

As Bertie would attest, it is a serious error to get Aunt Dahlia annoyed.

That guy with the goatee and red cup looks surprisingly familiar.
Gavin? Mann?

Yep, "Love Among the Chickens" is one of the finest comic novels ever penned. Nice catch. :)
