50 to 1

This looks like an excellent project - a proposal for a short video looking at the cost of mitigation versus adaptation. The guys behind it are looking for crowdsourcing support, so point your wallets and purses in this direction.

I have just seen this article/project on WUWT and I was about to post on Unthreaded. It is really thought provoking and I look forward to seeing the final video.
Sounds excellent, looking forward to it. One thing though: please don't make the animations cute and kooky i.e. in the style favoured by almost all environmentalist videos (that talk to you like a child). Otherwise, carry on!
Monckton minus pink portcullis. topher is a very engaging presenter, I wish him well.
Let's hope that the outcome has not been pre-decided!
The problem with this thinking is that the actual cost of ''stopping climate change'' is infinite if your choice of warming agent is wrong. CO2 does not, cannot, cause warming. The total life span of humans, indeed all life on the planet, is accept the inevitable climate change because it is a natural process and adapt. We always have and this will not change.
I refuse to contribute when Big-Oil should be paying for this or the Koch family. The sceptic cause is awash with money. We actually get paid by the word. Because of that, little did you know, people like BitBucket, Martin A, TinyCO2 are actually now living just off their contributions to this site... the secret is out. That is what happened to BBD, he had no need to work again. ZDB just cheats and keeps pasting the same entries hoping to rack up the word count derived dollars, even the Koch Brothers are not that stupid.
Maybe Eugenie, Franny, Daniel, Lizzie and the whole 10:10 team could offer some advice?
No pressure.
One of the better causes I have been able to contribute to in quite some time.
This deserves wide support.

Not to mention the Bishop with his palace and all that collection money...
Every little helps, as they say at Tesco. I've chipped in. HAVE YOU? (Accompanied by Kitchener with pointy hand gesture.)
This surely accepts AGW as a given, but "it's not as bad we thought", whereas the other lot say, "it's worse than we thought."
There is nothing unique about our current climate.
Looks good to me . I'm going to chip in. First attempt with a credit card failed, and the second, and the third. I may just wait until they get PayPal up and running as promised.
Topher is working to get PayPal enabled on this. Check back at indiegogo in a day or two.
Yes indeed. I got to the bit where there wasn't a Paypal option and stopped. Worth putting it on Facebook and the like. I have a FB account, though few friends - but those I have seem to have loads (both sons who, despite the education system, are healthily sceptical) plus a few others.
I donated because Christopher is a great presenter and it is about time for an easy to understand youtube climate video bite that I can send to everybody I know.
I also suggested to provide the video with subtitles (closed captioning it is called?) in several languages, to enlarge the target group. I offered to translate into Dutch.
Anybody here who speaks German/French/Spanish/Portugese/Japanese/etc and willing to translate? Let Christopher know at the link above!
Where's this "massive fossil fuel funding" when you need it?
This project is proposing to do a cost-benfit analysis of reducing the possible damage from global warming. That should be an absolutely central concern to the governments that are currently spending untold billions to "study" climate change. This project should be top of the list for government funding. But just look at the world we live in....the people who actually do receive funding accuse sceptics of being bribed by the petroleum industry, while they themselves rake in the NSF cash with projects to study the effects of climate change that "may" harm little squirrels.

The way I understand the project they are saying "Lets forget the science for abit and just look at the economics" So it is aimed squarely at the politicians and financiers. To do this they say " Lets just say the IPCC is correct in what it says about the science and use that as a starting base so there is no argument from that point" They are not saying they agree with the IPCC.
As others have said Topher is a great communicator and having a young person fronting it is a great idea.
I'm guessing that when it is done Lord Stern will not be happy !!
Worthy cause and an opportunity for many to finally get involved in a constructive way.
I read the comments at the project's indiegogo.com page and one stood out for me. Someone asked that the video not be confrontational. This is brilliant, imho. There really is no need for name calling, vitriol, and offensive language. I mention this because the promo does use the word "stupid" (I think) and it raises a flag for me. I too feel the facts are sufficient and an eloquent, clean presentation will work much better than a smear campaign.
These are my two cents in addition to my donation.
Done the dosh. Suggested over-dubbing in French and German to beard the loonies in their own den.
Hurray! Just managed to make a credit-card payment using a different card.
The appeal has reached $21,076.
Quite a long way go to reach the target. I hope a lot more people will be able to contribute over the next three weeks.
In less than 24 hours, the promised sum has reached $28,867, thanks in large part to one $5,000 donation.
An average rate of about $4,500 per day is required to reach the target of $130,000 in the remaining 23 days. Here is a hopeful hypothesis: wealthy people are wary of being taken for a ride by appeals for their money, but when they see so many people chipping-in, they may feel assured that the cause is genuine and has wide support. So, will big donations will be more common in the second half of the appeal period than in the first? Hope so.
50 to 1 Project. PayPal is now available for making donations to the video's costs.
