Keep calm

The comments threads are getting completely out of order again. Please could everyone take a deep breath and calm down. There are plenty of other venues if you want to vent your fury.

If people want to continue arguing wildly about this topic, they are always welcome to come over to http://www.reddit.com/r/climateskeptics where heavy arguments are quite common.

Martin,

I did see that but didn't actually consider it a real apology. Apology for choice of words is insignificant in the face of meanspirited intent. However, if he does deign to return, I of course will also read with interest, especially if he shows sincerity and integrity, which he can only demonstrate through responses to discussions inspired by his post/s. That will determine the end of the matter for me and I hope to see it come to pass.

Kendra, I am not sure which of Rob Wilson's postings you saw. His last (I think it was his last) at Apr 30, 2012 at 6:53 PM said:

"I am truly sorry if I antagonised and annoyed many of you."

As a long-time high school teacher, I have seen similar behaviour in playgrounds over the years to that which provoked the strong reactions here. I was surprised that an adult would behave in such a juvenile manner and was very tempted to react but restrained myself as I felt others including Mike Haseler and Rhoda had pretty much expressed my own thoughts and that 'piling on' would not contribute anything meaningful.
I respect his sincere apology for his lapse and it is to be hoped that he will follow the example of Richard Betts and continue to engage here.

Martin,

I was more responding to the previous. I don't want to beat a dead horse here and I am pleased that he is truly sorry, but disappointed that he seems not to recognize what the important thing to be sorry for actually is. The "if" doesn't help much either. I have seen no remorse for his approach having come from the basest side of his nature - herein I reiterate we are all capable of that, the failure is not acknowledging it..

Since many of the non-calm comments were prior to these apologies, my original comment here was mainly because I felt they were not out of line considering what had transpired - and while I in fact managed to have the fortitude to restrain myself then, it seems obvious now that this thread has been posted I felt things had been left a little lopsided - also it may very well be a personal failing of mine to expect an apology to be for the act that caused the damage.

I much prefer to be annoyed and/or antagonized by an argument made with sincerity, integrity and some modicum of respect. I will be holding no grudges and do look forward to seeing comments somewhere from Mr. Wilson coming from the better side of his nature.

How can we keep calm when the future of the collective civilisation is at stake?

May 2, 2012 at 1:39 AM | Unregistered CommenterRichard

The real problem is that people here simply don't care (enough) about the future of "the collective civilization"

[/sarcasm]

Is it just me,or do the words "the collective" strike a rather frightening tone to the sentence? It was almost Freudian of them....

"This AGW thing is about big government, bigger government and above all, world government. However the new world religion is a complex and convoluted thing simply because it is so big. Politicians long ago took the driving seat with their big government agenda and opened the financial floodgates to achieve their ends."

EXACTLY ! Sorry to say it but the 'climate' scientists are just useful tools in the game ... and they don't even realise it.

How does the saying go, " learning more and more about less and less until eventually we'll know everything about nothing."

Scientists that go along with this are aiding and abetting the ambush of Western democracy by totalitarian ideologues. So wrapped in the pursuit of arguing everything about nothing ... at the expense of Western democratic culture ... that they have become the prostitutes to the Cause.

Cool, calm, and collected in face of AGW catastrophists' escalating rhetoric... true, there's nothing to be gained by imitating such ignoramuses' hate-mongering, but frustration builds. A classic David Lean cartoon from Spring 1941 depicts a staid British bourgeois crumpling his newspaper, mercilessly pounding on the breakfast table, while his properly concerned spouse murmurs, "Calm yourself, dear-- even Hitler can't be both dregs and scum."

Hi Roy. I did notice that you suggested I look at those videos, and in fact I did have a look, 'though I can't remember what you had in mind about them (did you like them or hate them?). Personally I think they're stinkers...one blatant misrepresentation after another. I'm not too keen on what David Evans is trying to sell us!

Anyway, I had to return to work and posting on blogs can be addictively time-consuming so I decided to withdraw gracefully from that thread..

Did you spot the howlers in Evan's videos?!
