Mann: emails disclosed are "boilerplate"

A couple more hints about the Mann email disclosures by way of an article in Science Insider:

In a press release this afternoon, ATI said it had received "a 4.3 megabyte disk that contains 3,827 pages" of data. Paul Chesser, ATI's executive director, said ATI staff members had not had a chance to review the contents. "We think we got a third" of the documents requested, Chesser said. Mann, who says the university is keeping him abreast of the documents it releases, says they consist of routine e-mail messages and similar "boilerplate."

Apparently more documents will be released next month.

From the Science Insider piece: "U.Va has not turned over emails related to discussions of research, unpublished manuscripts, private discussions between scientists about science, etc.,--i.e., any of the materials that are exempt from release by state law," Mann wrote in an e-mail message.

It will be interesting to see if the U.Va rate email exchanges about FOI induced email deletion as 'private discussions between scientists about science'(!)! Either way, I trust that this famous email exchange, or its absence, feature in ATI's press briefings.

Quelle surprise, eh?!

I wish to read the e-mails that discuss which specific e-mails should be disclosed. Moreover, we should continue in this manner until something incriminating turns up.

The real Zed never posts this late, or is heavily under the influence........

Aug 25, 2011 at 10:24 PM | Unregistered Commentergolf charley

Agreed, that is not our Zed.
a) She's not a four letter girl and
b) Its relevant to the thread ;)
But it does remind me of the infamous meme, 'Leave Brittany Spears alone now!' . Google for it :)

So with this list of what will not appear, how come there is anything left?

E-mail exchanges beween scientists regarding published papers? If so which published papers would have most annoyed The Team. and when were they published?

Dear friends,

The historical review of the deep roots of Climategate has been updated to add reference [1] noting the remarkable similarity between “Lysenkoism” under Joseph Stalin in the old USSR and post-modern SSM and AGW dogmas.

Please inform me if you find typos in the documents.

"emails related to discussions of research, unpublished manuscripts, private discussions between scientists about science, etc."

There's three years of courtroom wrangling over definitions in that statement right there, if the judge permitted it.

"Private discussions between scientists about science" - please excuse me if my bovine excrement meter just caught fire.

I missed the deleted posting, but I do hope that it was an imposter for I do hope our Zed the best. She is entertaining and she is, after all, our Zed.

And to Zed, if you have been doing bad things to yourself, we do care. We might disagree, but you our our Zed. Take care.

I'm sort of with you on this DP but I must share a disagrement on a minor point of order. Yes, I agree that 4-letter fumblings have never been a trademark of our Truro Titan. The entertainment value is, of course, priceless but I'm not so sure about the gender of our wee goblin.
I suspect that not only is ZInDaBed not a Lady but a double male.
A HeHe!

Darn it. I almost googled 'just three pound a month to help ZIDB- just free £ a month' AND with my credit card close at hand.
Twas a bit of a toss-up between that charity and the Union of conCERNed scientists.
Luckily, I fell asleep before penning this post!

I was thinking we hadn't heard from Zed for a while, and was wondering if she had taken herself off to the Priory.

@ RoyFOMR Aug 26, 2011 at 3:05 AM

I'd say at least double, dunno about the gender(s), probably a shared flat.

Imitation is the sincerest form, and all that. No idea what was posted there, but in case there is any confusion, it wasn't me.

The real ZDB, easy to spot, not a trace of humility or thanks for the respect shown, by those she seeks to insult.

Please draw your own conclusions!

I agree with your scholarly analysis. And I am so thankful that I haven't lost my primary research subject.

Don, name me one person here or on WUWT etc etc that has not had the same thought.....Back to court room?

These people have no idea what the phrase "playing a straight bat" means! I truly do cry for all those scientists out there being tainted by the "Gang Climatologists" strategy! Mann really should be held to book for the damage he has caused but history will judge not just him but also those who have bowed to his garbage. Currently I simply can only put him on the same level of the gang minded level of the UK rioters!

What sort of format is a "4.3 megabyte disk"? I remember using an ST506 with 5Mb, but surely they're not storing valuable emails on technology that old!

From the UEA FOI file mentioned above, I particularly enjoyed the statement from Mr Raymond Scott, Assistant Director Strategy, Policy and Compliance at UEA:

UEA also considers that when a public body has faced an unprecedented level of misinformed and overly–intrusive media scrutiny, as in this case, it should be able to engage appropriate external advice and to consult those advisers and its own senior management on strategy freely and frankly without fear that those discussions will subsequently be disclosed. There is a very strong public interest in allowing appropriate consultation to take place.

What does 'boilerplate' even mean? Is English Mr Mann's first language?
