Von Storch on stroppy answers
Gosselin reports on an interview with Hans von Storch in the German media.
On the loss of credibility, climate science itself is to blame. The science has stirred up scientifically unfounded expectations, says von Storch. The demand that the public has to rapidly accept instructions on how to act in order to save the planet has blurred the boundaries between policy and science. As a result, science has not become something that has to do with “curiosity”, but rather gives the impression that it’s all about pushing a pre-conceived value-based agenda: “As scientists we have become political tools who are to deliver sought arguments to get citizens to do the right thing.”

Political tools paid with citizens' money. People have long memories for this sort of malfeasance.
It will be interesting to see if these comments from von Storch makes it into the British media (don't hold your breath) or into the consciousness of politicians even in Germany. (Again, don't hold breath).
But another crack in the monolith, at least.
They should just put their hands up and declare that they are in the business of being paid shills and and put an end to it.
"Climate proxy data showing a link to natural disasters and man made climate change, no probs, would you like to go large on sea levels for an extra £30k? Have a nice day!"
I was told yesterday that if you google British news for "peak oil", it now has more hits than "global warming". Now you can argue all you like whether the peak oil hysteria/concern which is rising is just another scam, or politicians finally dealing with a serious problem, but what you can't argue with is that Global warming has now been knocked off the No.1 spot backstop "column-filler" for the media.
Of course this is not "the end of the global warming scam" as we were all hoping for a grand trial where Jones, Mann, Russell and the weasel were all hauled before a jury and given their just deserts. But realistically looking at what happened with swine flu, this global warming nonsense is very likely to just fizzel out and be quietly forgotten by all (except a few getting very hansome bonuses for conning the UK government into handing over so much dosh for vaccines for another bout of seasonal flu.)
But what we can say, is that the media now recognise they are flogging a dead horse trying to squeeze more column inches out of this GW scam. GW has been bled dry, there's not another angle they can put on this scam and still frighten anyone.
BUSTED
HvS is spot-on, as always. And isn't this pretty much what Keith Kloor is arguing? That nose-holding by the consensus is counter-productive?

He does excellent work in keeping the worst excesses of Hans Schellnhuber (and Rahmstorf etc at PIK) in check. And we should be grateful for that.
Speaking of Rahmstorf, anyone who finds his sea level rise alarmism risible will enjoy a potter around at Climate Sanity:

Scottish Skeptic -- I think the "peak oil" thing is starting to beat AGW in the news all over the place , not just the UK. Its creeping into the business/financial pages and blogs in Australia/ NZ alot now. More interestingly on some of the blogs I read I find that some of the posters who I know are fanatical about AGW (ie. believers) are now not writing about it but are now equally fanatical about peak oil and peak energy in general.
