Bish,

OT -- Matt Ridley has a takedown on his blog Re: the Cornell "study" that goes after shale gas (and the BBC coverage). Might be worth a post.

And the author of the study has a priceless defense --
Howarth, however, defended his work as meeting strict academic and scientific standards. "It's being published in a highly respected journal and has been rigorously peer-reviewed," a report from Reuters quoted Howarth as saying. "This is not advocacy. This is science."

Where have we heard that before?

Fantastic! I am imaging a guilty (but relieved) reindeer shuffling away on the other side of the hill. (h/t Tom Wigley)

Super. Is that Mr Angry Person at the top of the treee, or is it my vivid imagination?

I know it wasn't Yamal (obviously) but was there ever a better name for a dendro series than the one taken from Twisted Tree; Heartrot Hill?

Perhaps an alternative title for those allergic to puns?

Well done Amoorhouse, I wish I had thought of the line, it is such a great one.

Happy to print some T-shirts for any who want them, just send an email [ josh at cartoonsbyjosh.com ]. Anthony is doing some for US tree huggers ;-)

About tree huggers, if I knew the author of this I would give attribution. It just floated through on the Net.

Should we have a secret handshake too?

Geoff Sherrington - that is the funniest thing I've read all year. As a biker myself, perhaps it had particular resonance.

The guy from the organising committee is priceless. He sure knows how to spin a line with his tongue planted in his cheek: "You know, just because we are all members of motorcycle clubs does not mean we do not care about inclusiveness."

Gotta go. Just wet myself.

Calibration with inaccurate instruments leads to Cauchy-distributed errors. Then averaging won't help at all and one has to select one 'median-tree' to represent global temperatures. That must be YAD06.

Amoorhouse! It's a gem, thank you so much! Let me know where to send a free T shirt or something.
