Josh writes: "her actual quote was 'If we are to overcome the climate crisis we must move on to the equivalent of a war footing' and she then likened the leadership this would require to Tony Blair's in taking us to war in Iraq"

Yes. The Green 'vision' is regression. This demonstrates with absolute clarity the huge problem with their thinking: it is incomplete.

There is no acknowledgement whatsoever of human ingenuity and the capacity for progressive problem solving.

Hence the relentless pessimism and barely masked neo-luddite leanings.

Anti-humanism (neo-Malthusianism) and anti-democratic (elitist) tendencies complete the mix.

It really is quite nasty and a little pitiful when viewed objectively.

I disagree with your comment that the Greens' thinking is incomplete; my view is that they are completely unreconstructed revolutionary Marxists, a hangover from the early 20th century uprisings in Russia who view the modern world and Capitalism with horror. They are all certifiably mad and their strongest desire appears to be to drag the rest of humanity into their version of Utopia, where everybody must be agrarian survivalists existing in crocheted Yurts and eating raw veg with no meat whatsoever. To repeat, Greens are mad revolutionary Marxists who are totally disconnected from reality and the sooner they are generally regarded as the irrelevance they actually are, the better.

Harry1. The Greens weren't decimated, they were annihilated.

RETEPHSLAW. I see you beat me to Pedants' Corner on the 'decimation' thing. Interesting and, as ever, forthright take on the Irish election from Mary Ellen Synon in the Mail / Irish Mail , particularly on what comes next.

I know it is a very hotly disputed accolade.

But I nominate the immensely self satisfied Ms. Lucas as the most despicable British politician.

The "War on Climate Change" is in reality a war on the poor. (Dr.Roy Spencer).

Stare at Miz Lucas' innocent little pixie face for long enough and you'll begin to see the much scarier features of George Galloway and his one time old SWP bruiser buddy Lindsay German.

Before her mates in the Graun and Observer gave her the furry rights and lentils makeover, ever since her private school & Exeter uni days - she was a hard-line CND and Greenham Common rent-a-mobber.

She's still VP of Gorgeous George's SWP/Islamist "Stop The War" rabble and her scientific expertise is neatly summed up by her promotion of homeopathy (which makes even her leftie supporters cringe http://liberalconspiracy.org/2010/08/12/why-we-chose-to-criticise-caroline-lucas-over-homeopathy/).

She's the ultimate watermelon.

Tim Bromige,

Thanks for the link to the Mail and the Kenny story. He is a very small tail trying to wag a very large dog.

From Pedant General!!!
