ACPO loses NDET

The Association of Chief Police Officers, the private company that runs bits of the police service in the UK is to lose all operational duties after one of its undercover officers appears to have gone native, getting (ahem) emotionally involved with one of the green activists he was supposed to be monitoring.

This will therefore include the National Domestic Extremism Team who investigated the "well organised and well funded conspiracy" of global warming sceptic who (allegedly) infiltrated CRU.

Now own up - how many of you have been sleeping with undercover police officers?

BH reasonably polls his readership:

Now own up - how many of you have been sleeping with undercover police officers?

Unless they fessed up, or there was a complete sod-up deservedly mocked by the press, how would we know?

Maybe somebody gave him a large sum of money to muddy the waters in order to prevent the prosecutions? No matter what happened or his reasons, he was not doing his duty and therefore ought to be prosecuted - if the authorities ever catch up with him and if the film-makers don't pay his bail (assuming that option is available).

Sleeping with undercover police officers? It's possible. I have to confess to performing a fair amount of due diligence in verification of models that were superficially attractive. Most were quite willing but all were found wanting. Maybe they were associated with ACPO.

"Now own up - how many of you have been sleeping with undercover police officers?"

How would we know until we read all about it in The News of the Screws?

I suppose there might be some giveaways - evenin' all.

From the Mail article:

"In a further blow, it is facing a funding crisis after the Association of Police Authorities said it was no longer prepared to hand over £850,000 a year in grants."

I suppose they could do a bit of carbon trading to make ends meet.

If genders had been reversed, would it have been fair to observe that the green advocacy group had penetrated the NDET?

If his standing orders were similar in wording to this except from Tameside Council, he may have taken his duties too literally...
'...It is vital therefore, that Members and Officers work with the Monitoring Officer (and his/her staff) to enable him/her to discharge his/her statutory responsibilities and other duties. The following arrangements and understandings between the Monitoring Officer, Members and Chief Officers (Senior Management Team) are designed to ensure the effective discharge of the Council's business and functions.'

BBD, I was thinking the same thing. How would we know? lol.

C'mon LEOs are sneaky. They have a hard enough time catching criminals. In those cases they go undercover and entrap innocent people.... :-)

"I was proceeding to open the email from the CRU server. Observations characteristic of dishonesty on the part of climatologists passed before my eyes at an extreme rate of velocity, and eventually one such message forced itself to be read, against my better judgment, by my left eye. At this point, your honour, I became dimly aware of the fact that the climategate incident might not have been caused by a terrorist group of hackers, but instead by a leak from within the CRU organization itself. Fortunately, inspector knacker kindly offered to pound my head with the CRU's server until this disturbing thought had passed. Thereupon I arrested myself for crimes against the climate."

If you are a female spy, it is your job to sleep with the enemy. But not if you are a male spy, it seems. Ian Fleming must have got it all terribly wrong.

Politician – Yes, yes, I know all about the undercover operations to find out what the greenies are doing but what have you don’t about the evil sceptics?

Senior Police Officer – Err, well sir that was a bit difficult. We couldn’t find many of our officers who wasn’t one. Even the new guys, straight out of school, were converted after a few hours reading Bishop Hill and WUWT.

Politician – Is it mind control?

Senior Police Officer – No, sceptics are cunningly logical, bloody reasonable and slightly sarcastic. It’s a winning combination.

Politician – But they must have some direct action planned?

Senior Police Officer – They write a lot of letters and comments to newspapers and there’s a few FOIs but it seems spontaneous sir. Their most effective campaigns have been to uncover the mistakes made by the climate scientists.

Politician – What nefarious trick do they use for that?

Senior Police Officer – Apparently it’s hard work and persistence. We can’t predict what coup they’ll pull off next.

Politician – The swine, this proves that they’re highly funded. You can’t get this level of support without an evil mastermind… I know, we’ve tried. This is not good enough. I want undercover officers embedded within the organisation by the end of the month.

Senior Police Officer – Umm, I’m not sure about that, I think the sceptics would like it too much.

Politician – There must be something. How about an agent provocateur? Someone to encourage them to do something we can arrest them for.

Senior Police Officer – We tried that sir, remember Climategate?

Politician – You don’t mean..?

Senior Police Officer – I’m saying nothing sir.

Sleeping with an undercover policeman?

At my age, especially at this time of year, I prefer an undercover hottie bottie.

I confess I once knew a rather charming WDC and I still have her handcuff key, hopeless romantic that I am. Was good fun and nothing covert about it, although occasionally depressing finding out the perils of the job, like endless paperwork and process. She'd probably suggest the best way to detect a modern, politically trained officer undercover would be to ask them to climb a ladder. If they ask for risk assesment forms, they may be suspect.

Also wondering about potential consequences of this supposed scandal. Police will no doubt react and make policy that intimate contact with suspects is a serious disciplinary offence and offenders will be punished. Activists may respond by using sex as part of an initiation or loyalty test, which officers would have to refuse making it harder to penetrate the organisation, but attempts to gain entry by non-officers may grow and increase membership. Rumours that groups like the ELF are studying the recruiting policies of David Berg are unconfirmed at this time due to a failure of operational intelligence gathering.

Good news that the ACPO are being reigned in though, and the groups they spawned will remain given the greens keep campaigning for more direct action.
