de Boer steps down
Feb 18, 2010 Climate: IPCC
The BBC is reporting that top climate official, Yvo de Boer, is stepping down. Perhaps indicative of some behind-the-scenes manoevring?

If that's the face 'e deserves, 'e must've been a very naughty boy. Unlike my Phil.
"He said the failure to secure a treaty at Copenhagen was unrelated to his decision to quit, and that he had begun looking for a new job last year, before the summit.
Mr De Boer said he will be a consultant on climate and sustainability issues for KPMG, a global accounting firm"
I wonder what his salary will be?
Timed to perfection for the exit from Westminster of a few true believers.
Take no notice of is mum. You shud of seen the state of is bedroom when he were a lad. I told er I should of taken the belt to im when I cort im feeding scraps of paper to the dog.
What with all these IPCC gates maybe someone decided to show him the door.

I'm really disappointed. I was hoping he will be escorted in handcuffs and orange jump suit
I reckon he's pretty switched on - got himself a nice little consultancy number while the goings still good.
Something may have just collided with the air extractor I think.

de Boer steps down
Here's an appearance by Yvo de Boer in the chronology of
Dr Rajendra Pachauri's abortive investigation of the validity
of the CRU's analysis of the temperature data!
So far as Yvo de Boer was concerned, the incident that the
chronology records may, to a high international official,
have been just 'water off a duck's back'.
On the other hand, he may have found Dr Pachauri's almost
instant 'contradiction' just two days after his briefing
to be irritating and discomposing.
Not a resignation matter though, one would think.

Dr Rajendra Pachauri says in an interview with the Guardian that
'an independent inquiry into the emails would achieve little,
but there should be a criminal investigation into how the
emails came to light'

IPCC chairman Dr Rajendra Pachauri changes position, and says on
BBC Radio 4 that claims that UK scientists manipulated data on
global warming will be investigated: 'This is a serious issue
and we will look into it in detail'

Yvo de Boer is Executive Secretary of the United Nations
Framework Convention on Climate Change.
In an interview with the Associated Press on Sunday 6 December,
Yvo de Boer recites concerns 'that scientists are manipulating
information in a certain direction', but reiterates that Dr Rajendra
Pachauri has announced that he wil investigate the matter.
Thus so far as Yvo de Boer is concerned, what Dr Pachauri told
the BBC on 4 December continues on 6 December to hold good

Dr Rajendra Pachauri goes back totally on what he told the BBC
on 4 December.
As reported by Agence France-Presse, Dr Pachauri:
1) dismisses the idea that he should investigate the
validity of the CRU's analysis of the temperature data:
'I think this is an illegal act. The only issue that has to be
dealt with as far as this occurrence is concerned is to find out
who is behind it'
2) having said that the IPCC would probe the incident 'just to
see if there are any lessons for us that we might want to take
onboard', reemphasises:
'But I want to clarify that this is not an investigation.'

I don't know if this is significant or not, but the original version of the Reuters story about his resignation said " De Boer has led the agency since 2006 and his contract was expected to be renewed in September" (this text appears in Google hits), but the story has since been updated and now says nothing about the renewal of his contract.
Ah, here we go:
His “contract runs out in September, but he certainly has no intention of leaving and expects it to be renewed,” a member of the UNFCCC said in an email to AFP on Jan. 20.
This is reported in a few places. I got it here: http://www.grist.org/article/2010-02-18-two-months-after-copenhagen-summit-u.n.-climate-pointman-to-quit/
Sounds like the "job-hunting-since-last-July" line was a porky.

Postioning for the top job that may becoming vacant in the near future perhaps???
I fully expect to see Gordon Brown heading one self important world-saving international climate body or another should he find himself out of a job in a couple of months. Then I fear there will be nowhere left on the planet safe from him.
hi, does anyone remember of a good blog as a replacement for Neopets Cheats?
