That break-in

There are reports today that there has been a break-in at the offices of global warming scientist Andrew Weaver.

In one incident, an old computer was stolen and papers were disturbed. In addition, individuals have attempted to impersonate technicians in a bid to access data from his office.

Do you know what I find odd? In none of the reports is there any mention of when these alleged break-ins happened and there are no statements from the police either.

Hmmmm....

Perhaps someone should contact the police in Victoria, Canada, to see how their investigation is coming along.

Noticed this plant ..i mean story in The Guardian . Quite frankly its desperate stuff from the warmists. Perhaps The Gran could "investigate" further? Yknow , maybe get a quote from The Police , or a time and date as to when this supposedly "Happened"...Expect more of this kind of lie in the coming weeks and months.

Or - perhaps "black ops" - what better way for the authorities to blow the CRU story out of the water to be able to point to illegality on the side of the "evil deniers".............

I certainly smell a rodent...........

There appear to have been several attempts over the last months.

Bishop--
According to the National Post story,
"The office break-ins took place late last year, Mr. Weaver said, while the other alleged hacking attempts at his colleagues' offices -- all unsuccessful -- took place within the past few months."

It's now November, so late last year would be at least 11 months ago. Here's the link-- the late last year part is lower down in the artlcle.

What none of these stories mention is any quotes from honest to goodness police or even the internal investigators.

My allotment shed was broken into at the weekend. Clear proof that the warmists are rattled.

There was a new scratch on my car this morning. I think desperate alarmists did it trying to break in. This clearly proves that every member of the hockey team is a criminal. Obama was the one giving the orders. The evidence is clear. What more proof do we need?

He already complained about it last week on the CBC when asked about Climategate (better to speak about that than to answer the content of the CRU emails).

My bike had a puncture the other day. Hard proof that the thermomaniacs are after us.

"The key thing is to try to find anybody who's involved in any aspect of the IPCC and find something that you can … take out of context," said Weaver.

One has to wonder what context was taken out of that quote and replaced with ...

It seems quite obvious that there is a scheme to try and make the release of the emails the story rather than the content.
I still hold that the emails were released by a young graduate working within the team who got pissed off that his ideals were being trashed through dodgy work and more importantly the mismanagement of the FOI rules. The initial story I heard was that the zip file was uploaded to RealClimate, who quickly noticed a 166Mb file stealing their bandwidth! This is not the action of a hacker!
All this story of the Russians or the Chinese being involved is just dirt to avoid speaking about the content of the code! The Russian Website was just to hide the location of the uploader nothing else. All we are seeing is may people voicing their biases rather than anything constructive!

This is still a picnic on the Austrian Hungarian Border - we need a few more leaks or events before the wall comes down!

Andrew Weaver has now acquainted people with the fact that he is a scientist...

All this media fluff about break-ins and hacking looks like an attempt to divert attention from the emails and the program sources. Very little by the way of hard facts is being reported, it's unchallenged statements and wild theorising

Why should anyone need to resort to burglary or hacking to get hold of this information? Why wasn't the data and code released ages ago?

Hacking attempts: Look at firewall reports from any PC and you'll see numerous hits on ports which shouldn't be there. Run a Windows PC with no firewall on the net and it will be minutes before it's owned. "Hacking Attempts", sounds sinister, but probably amounts to nothing much. Anyone can say quite truthfully, that their computer is subject to hacking attempts.

Weaver's and CRU's super secret data: Some people are desperate to get hold if it to discredit AGW. If AGW can be discredited by data being made available, it doesn't take a lot of discrediting.

It is stunning really. Here we have reason to believe that some climate scientists are conspiring* to avoid FoI requests--requests that seek to access public information about the ‘most important issue facing humanity’ and the outrage is over intruders?
* (“You can delete this attachment if you want. Keep this quiet also, but this is the person who is putting in FOI requests for all emails Keith and Tim have written and received re Ch 6 of AR4. We think we've found a way around this.” etc.)
It brings to mind a scene from A Few Good Men…”I want the truth!”:

Weaver is either getting understandably paranoid or is putting expert spin on the matter. Laptop thefts, etc, are certainly not unheard of on any university campus.

An american academic friend of mind said his hockey stick had gone missing recently. He got it in 2001, carefully looked after and embellished it over the years. Apparently some crazed Canadian with a slide rule was spotted near his locker in 2009 and 'poof', it was gone.

Mann, these AGW propagandists sure don't miss a "trick", do they? No "death threats" yet, though. Except, of course, from the AGWers - Hansen's "crimes against Nature", holocauster statements.

In today's Toronto Globe and Mail (Dec. 7), Professor Weaver and Professor Homer-Dixon have an article "responding to the skeptics". Their version of the four most common arguments of the skeptics is quite misleading and I believe their responses to be less than honest. I am not competent to reply, but I hope someone with greater expertise will have the time to do so. The Globe is a fairly influential newspaper in Canada. The article is available, at least at the moment, on the Globe's website..

I refuse to be termed a denier or skeptic any longer.

My null hypothesis is that the warming is Natural. I have yet to see any acceptable proof of an alternative hypothesis.

I am therefore a Naturalist.

There. Fixed that.

Better yet, check out the new Climate Audit site, the University was plagued with a series of break-ins at the time and in fact a specific warning was sent out by the university authorities.

This statement by Weaver is either a thoroughly dishonest and unethical ploy, or he really has a serious case of paranoia. [Snip - venting]

For a response to Weaver see "Peter Foster: Weaver's Web" on the National Post (Canadian newspaper) website.

"Is it unreasonable to suggest his charge of theft against the fossil fuel industry is totally without merit? "

FYI...the response I got from the Saanich police (posted on their web site here: http://www.saanichpolice.ca/wp/guestbook/1

Nick, Saanich

The Times Colonist has report of a break in at UVIC, specifically Prof. Andrew Weaver’s office. The TC article is here: ***Removed by Site Administrator**

VIC PD told me UVIC is under Saanich Police jurisdiction.

Are Saanich Police treating this as an open crime? I can see nothing on you web site about it.

Regards, Nick.

Saanich Police Response:

Hello Nick, thank you for visiting our website. As you can see I’ve removed the link to the Times Colonist article for site security reasons.

Yes, part of UVIC is Saanich jurisdiction and part is Oak Bay’s jurisdiction. We have a number of break and enters at UVIC that we are actively investigating. We ask anyone who has any information on these crimes to please contact the Saanich Police at 250-475-4321 or call their local Crimestoppers.
