NASA scientist speaks out
Jan 23, 2009 Climate
A couple of days ago the news feeds were full of a story that Antarctica was warming up, overturning earlier views that it was cooling down - an embarrassing flaw in the global warming case. Now NASA scientist Ross Hays, who works in Antartica, has spoken out against the paper.
With statistics you can make numbers go to almost any conclusion you want. It saddens me to see members of the scientific community do this for media coverage.

The BBC's Richard Black did a long story on this new Arctic warming research for their website, and I noticed that, for once, there were some fairly conspicuous caveats.

The name of Michael Mann, one of the authors of the paper, is also conspicuously absent.
I am certain that six months ago either the 10pm News or Newsnight would have run this as a lead story, with Roger Harrabin pontificating over dazzling images of crumbling ice. So far there has been no mention of it.
