Gordon Ramsay says "Africans are expendable"

Quite why the BBC thinks the opinions of a footballer-turned-cook are of any great interest is beyond me, but they are reporting today that Mr Ramsay wants to ban out of season produce from restaurants. And he has been telling Gordon Brown so as well.

I'm probably becoming a bit of a stuck record on this subject, but it's hard to know what else to do in the face of a never-ending barrage of demands to ban imported food.

So here we go again. If we ban out of season food then people in Africa and Chile are going to be out of jobs and that may well mean starving.

Just because you can't see them Gordon, doesn't mean they can be flung on the scrapheap without a second thought.

What the hell business is it of Gordon Ramsay, or Gordon Brown, for that matter, what private businesses sell on their premises? If it's "to save the planet", Mr. Ramsay'll have to stop swanning roun in honking great 4X4's on his "Kitchen Nightmares" programme.

"What the hell business is it of Gordon Ramsay, or Gordon Brown"...

Well, Gordon Ramsay is a civilian and as such fully free to say whatever he wishes. This is to be celebrated (although perhaps he could choose to exercise his right to say 'fuck' a little less often).

What surprises me is that Gordon Brown - who has actual responsibility on matters like this - should entertain it for even seconds (sounds like desperate attention seeking to me).

In addition, despite the fact that economists are virtually undivided on the fact that Free Trade is a good thing, not a single one (that I have heard) was invited to comment on what appears to be a proposal to ban all food imports.

Better food flights cease then Ramsay's trips to the Middle East and the US for his restaurant business, eh.

Chefs, cooks, waiters and the likes of Ramsay are *staff* and so should remain below-stairs at all times.

I don't want the servants telling me what is and is not on the dinner-menu.
