I have just been looking at the Solar Impulse website. According to the "controls" page, it is heading about 280 degrees (not sure if magnetic or true). Is there an explanation for this? Avoiding weather perhaps?

@Phillip Bratby

there's quite an incestuous cluster of planning functionaries in the Temple Area of Bristol cheek by jowl with literally dozens of planning lawyers. who are presently gorging on literally billions in government officials screw-ups and eco-subsidy.

Palatial offices aplenty and as we have found an ingrained culture of back scratching.

This IS hot off the press, Miliband was on R5 at 11.45 as his local pit closed
428 out of work as Hatfield pit closes a year early ..cos of Milibands Climate Act
"the move has been brought forward unexpectedly...Miliband said he was trying to arrange a meeting with the energy minister tomorrow and has called a debate in the House of Commons on Thursday."
Manager said “The problem was ...Government ..doubling their very own top-up carbon levy from £9.54 to £18.08 per tonne of CO2 ...result was that the energy companies stockpiled coal in advance of the increase in April destroying the market ".
I wonder what Miliband's projection was for it to be ?
... He'd be commiserating with more redundant power plant and factory workers if he'd actually got elected and been implementing his policies now.

- "Hatfield is in the Don Valley constituency? If so where is Caroline Flint, MP for Don Valley and Shadow for Energy?"

This isn't hot off the press, but it's still fun:

Exploding smart meters

Ordinary meters were unaffected...

Deben Alert coming up on Today at 8:35am
"The UK must take urgent action to prepare for the impact of climate change, a group of MPs has warned. The Committee on Climate Change has published a report saying ministers should focus on the future risks of heatwaves and flooding. It said more needed to be done to keep emissions on track, although the government said it was committed to meeting its climate change target for 2020. Lord Deben is chairman of the Committee on Climate Change."
Didn't they have him on about a month ago using almost exactly the same blurb as an excuse ?

They did Fracking at 7:20am \\rejected the bid on the grounds of "unacceptable noise impact" and the "adverse urbanising effect on the landscape". Ken Cronin is chief executive officer at UKOOG. Liz Hutchins is senior campaigner at Friends of the Earth.//

- What about Robert Redford saying "Paris is the last chance we have to save the planet" ?

They've been warning on French TV (BFMTV rolling news) about temperatures reaching 40'C here in Limousin from today, it touched low 30s here yesterday but indoors remained at about 25'C with the shutters closed to keep out the afternoon sun. During winter the house can get warmer than that inside with the wood burner going full blast, iit feels warmer in winter no doubt due to the contrast in indoor/outdoor temperatures.

tomo: It must be a coincidence that the Planning Inspectorate is based at Bristol, the European Green Capital.

@Phillip Bratby

indeed ... we've just told HM Planning Inspectorate to stuff "their" inquiry - on the grounds that they were colluding with "the opposition" (The EA - 20 minutes brisk walk away) to truncate both the terms of reference and the timescale to exclude the primary reasons that the inquiry was sanctioned in the first place. PINs are not - and never should be regarded as honest players when other bureaucrats are in play - rather like the Local Government Ombudsman....

As far as councillors and planners are concerned it's S106 that gets them drooling for the most part. Some believe it's carte blanche for extortion.
