I see both 2CV and R4 in fields where I wouldn't take my modern hatchback, compared with a 4x4 of the Landcruiser variety they do very little churning up of the field even in the constricted area at the entry. There's a lot to be said for treading lightly.

Me "Can you please clarify that bit about the Tanzania sea reaching 40C*
Sounds 'too wow to be true' ?"
Tracy Aze‏ " data from a section in Tanzania that we worked on a few years ago and some new stuff from Nigeria... will post links ScienceMag abstract
pdf with strange filename __userdata_documents2_rfw62_Desktop_badgetr.pdf "

*See she didn't deny that she said 40C which is what Alan & I heard
Seems to me LibMob thinking is "It's not FakeNews cos even tho the numbers/model was wrong it's the RIGHT narrative"

I am from the South Downs, 700ft up . Not much by Scottish standards, but sufficient to create micro climates that are not the same as 5 miles south, let alone the coastal strip from Chichester to Fareham, including the Island of Portsmouth, surrounded by tidal waters.

I am aware of how unpredictable the weather can be in Scotland! Strangely, the midges know when not to get blown away, hide, and only come back out again when all is over. Most Scots, and ALL visitors just want an accurate "Midge Forecast", but the Met Office have never asked the midges how they do it. Might have been a bit cheaper

The Met Office is too London centric, unless something happens that can be falsely attributed to Global Warming.. They do not report on record high temperatures for Prestwick Airport. Perhaps it is inferior to Heathrow as an Urban Heat Island, and does not have as many exotic flights, and coffee bars.

Mark Hodson,

I do my own weather forecast based on these websites :-
http://magicseaweed.com/North-Atlantic-Surf-Chart/2/?chartType=PRATE
http://wxweb.meteostar.com/models/noaaport_loop.php?PATH=/var/www/leads_images/satellite/AON/IR/&NUMBLOOP=10
I beat the Met Office more often than not

SandyS, I am one of those who was very dismissive about 2CVs.

Then I drove one in conditions of mud, snow and ruts that were "only suitable for 4x4s". The humble 2CV was a revelation.

Why they became so associated with CND/Greenpeace etc, I do not know. They are brilliantly engineered, and pre-date WW2.

golf charlie: "The Met Office has demonstrated great advances in weather forecasting this century."

No doubt, but they're still not fit for purpose IMO. One of the very few years where I think my opinion and yours differ is on the reliability of Met Office weather forecasts. Perhaps that is a function of where we live (you in the south, me in the north) and of our different leisure activities (you, I believe, on boats, me in the mountains). My experience of Met Office forecasts here in Cumbria (and also in Scotland, where I spend much of my holiday time), is that the 5-day forecast is worse than useless, and that the next day forecast has about a 50% accuracy rate.

Last week the Met Office forecast for Cumbria for the following day was wrong every single day. I decide what the day's activities will involve based on looking out of the window, not on what the Met Office tell me the weather is going to do.

2CV and Renault $ seem to be used as All Terrain Vehicles by a few people today. Both classic utility vehicles which kept rural France moving in the 50s 60s anf 70s. You could include the Citroen C15 van in white for 1070s to 200s in that list, its loss was greatly mourned in some quarters. It's interesting how many modern light vans continue the box stuck on the back format of the old 2CV van.

Is there a washing powder suitable for today's lower temperature washes, that will remove Green stains from Science?

The Met Office has demonstrated great advances in weather forecasting this century. Now they have lost their contract with the BBC, all they will be remembered for, will be their failures in Climate Science, and it is unlikely they will be wanted by the BBC's new Forecaster.
