Here's a story (not news, as such, admittedly) on RT, that you won't find on the BBC:

‘It’s become hellish’: Brussels residents fight against EU construction project largesse

https://www.rt.com/news/402294-brussels-eu-parliament-rebuilding/

Locals in Brussels are angry with the EU’s never-ending construction projects, which they say paralyze the city center. The proposed renovation of one EU site comes with the hefty price tag of half-a-billion euro, drawing sharp criticism from Belgians.
The latest plan, costing an estimated half a billion euros, involves rebuilding the EU parliament building in the very heart of the city. While the current EU parliament building is less than 25 years old, plans to refurbish it or rebuild it entirely have been circulating for some time, as the glass and concrete structure has been deemed unsafe according to the latest EU safety regulations.

In June, Politico reported the draft plan to rebuild the structure as opposed to reinforcing it. Previously, the cost of replacement for the Paul-Henri Spaak building, which itself cost some €1 billion (US$1.2bn) to build, had been placed at €430 million.

There's much more in the same vein, but I particularly liked the line:

"While the current EU parliament building is less than 25 years old, plans to refurbish it or rebuild it entirely have been circulating for some time, as the glass and concrete structure has been deemed unsafe according to the latest EU safety regulations."

Aaronovitch and his "the desire for a better story"

Em like spinning "the temperature is up ever so slightly"
..to "oh my got we've got to act catastrophe is coming"

He's projecting like LibMib usually do.

Will France;s armed forces be the first in the world to operate with no oil-based fuels, I wonder? No aircraft, sailing ships only, and electric tanks. I suppose they could rebuild those Maginot line forts...

Now we await news that the Northern Lights are due to manmade CO2.

stewgreen, spinning sails. Tried before, but this time, Maersk, one of the biggest shipping companies is being subsidised by the UK Taxpayer.

https://www.cnbc.com/2017/03/14/maersk-tankers-to-be-fitted-with-huge-rotating-sails-to-cut-fuel-bills.html

"Norsepower said it was working in partnership with Maersk Tankers, Shell Shipping & Maritime, and the U.K.'s Energy Technologies Institute (ETI). The ETI is majority funding the project."

I wondered if that was part of what prompted Pcar's query.

The footage of toothed killer whales deliberately beaching, inorder to grab sunbathing seals was filmed in South America, and I don't think that method of hunting/killing has been observed elsewhere, but the reward of a fat juicy seal made the risk worthwhile. For the larger baleens, there is (normally?) no advantage in entering shallow water.

Mariners are very wary of shallow water especially if it is tidal. Submariners risk embarrassment in peacetime, and destruction in wartime.

Black Dick is broadcasting toxic crap for ECIU about hurricanes being affected by sea level rise and France stopping all oil exploration. I wonder what he's trousering for pumping all this bilge ........?

Aaronovitch? he was a pointless twerp who parlayed a stint as NUS President into a meeja career - and regularly reminds us of his Oxygen larcenist talent thankfully mostly behind a paywall - "Trump science" eh? - bet he loved doing that.

"We can’t allow superstition to trump science
david aaronovitch
Attempts to denigrate Darwin and doubt man-made climate change are part of a worrying trend to ignore the evidence"

The evolution bit is 95% of article
Climate bit is near to end. Here's it all
"And then there's the question of the human contribution to to global warming. Once again the desire for the better story and the difficulties in counteracting CO2 emissions have created a powerful counter-scientific impulse"

Surely the link with whale strandings is that the toothed whales, that strand, employ echolocation, whereas the baleen whales which are mostly deep sea denizens, do not echolocate?

Seems to me some gov person is feeding small green tidbits to the Times Transport Correspondent : Graeme Paton
Today : Spinning sails : Greener British Ships £6m Department Of Transport trial
Last week was - Planes powered by landfill waste could help cut carbon emissions
Department for Transport (DfT) said that £22 million would be spent on developing low-carbon “waste-based” fuels for aircraft and lorries

..To me those £ values seem tiny .window dressing ?
