tomo, from your Wikipedia link:
"In 2014, Selmayr became the campaign director for Jean-Claude Juncker during his candidacy for President of the European Commission, and he subsequently became head of the Juncker transition team and head of cabinet to the President of the European Commission when Juncker took office.[3] Media reports suggest Selmayr is a very influential figure in EU politics, with Politico describing him as "the most powerful EU chief of staff ever" in November 2016 and noting that even Juncker jokingly refers to him by the nickname "the monster."[4]Tomáš Prouza, the Czech state secretary for European affairs said “when I need a decision to be taken on any file, I talk to Martin"
What Wikipedia does not mention, is that somebody had to be working flat out, when Juncker was flat out.

Yes, Stern presumed Mann was correct.

It seems to be largely unremarked - but Martin Schultz has spiraled down in smoke from the EU political sky - I had him pinned as a more difficult character than the drunken wiretapping Luxembourger crook.
We don't hear nearly enough of what Junker's "Sir Humphrey" Martin Selmayr is up to... after all his hand is working Monsieur Barnier 's mouth - non?

Junckers denies that he plots to raid tax revenues.... nah ...nope ...never .. Just the piggie banks. I put it in a SAFE GERMAN place ...that can be trusted ...you understand.

Spooks spout climate doom

The European Union has [may have] backed down from its plans to insert a ‘punishment clause’ into its Brexit deal with the United Kingdom
The desire for UK Money emphasised again.
PM May, as Dyson et al have said we hold the upper hand, stop appeasing EU bullies. Do what they fear and walk away.

yup... he seems to have operated in the murky Leigh Day / PIL world... It's quite entertaining to see him lose it in interviews where that trademark composure evaporates... It's an Achilles heel that few seem to have exploited.
I actually didn't look closely when he was elected - but his jumping on a series of self evidently lame hobby horses got me to wondering and reading around a bit and coming to the conclusion that he's as much of a fruitcake as McDonnell & Co - but he's a solicitor and they are generally are quieter than barristers... Sadiq seems like one of those speakers that drones the committee to sleep and then passes his motions ....

The Monster manages ...while the celebrations continue ....and May dithers.
