The Italian Election results are in, but nobody knows who has won. The EU has probably lost.

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2018/mar/05/italy-turns-back-on-europe-as-election-points-to-hung-parliament

"A majority of Italian voters have supported Eurosceptic candidates in the national election, preliminary results showed, after decades in which Italy has steadfastly championed the European project.

Early results released by the interior ministry on Monday morning, as ballots continued to be counted, pointed to a hung parliament, though there was still a possibility that the centre-right coalition, with about 37% of the vote, could eke out a victory once parliamentary seats are allocated.

Either result would represent a repudiation of Brussels by Italian voters, less than two years after the UK narrowly voted to leave the European Union."

But the Italians may need more General Elections to confirm their predictable unpredictability.

From your link, a list of those who have spread fear, for personal gain:

"One even alleged that the White House had written to complain about some of the comments attributed to Professor Sir David King, Tony Blair's chief scientific adviser, after he branded the President's position on the issue as indefensible.

Among those scientists present at the White House talks were Professor John Schellnhuber, former chief environmental adviser to the German government and head of the UK's leading group of climate scientists at the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research. He said that the Pentagon's internal fears should prove the 'tipping point' in persuading Bush to accept climatic change.

Sir John Houghton, former chief executive of the Meteorological Office - and the first senior figure to liken the threat of climate change to that of terrorism - said: 'If the Pentagon is sending out that sort of message, then this is an important document indeed.'

Bob Watson, chief scientist for the World Bank and former chair of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, added that the Pentagon's dire warnings could no longer be ignored."

Trump understands the very simple maths, and Cost Benefit Analysis to US Taxpayers, involved in fighting those that promulgate fear and terror. Don't fund them.

Normally it does not really matter who wins an Italian Election, because there will be another one within a year.

This one is different. It has become another EU Referendum.

After BREXIT, neither France nor Germany registered overwhelming support for the EU. Merkel and Macron both need some good news, but Italians will put their short term interests first, which may involve having a laugh at the EU's expense.
