Ross Lea, does anyone know anyone who is in favour of HS2 - other than politicians,of course?

Uibhist a Tuath,
The whole rail network should be electrified for maximum efficiency and powered by small scale nuclear energy. HS2 should be scrapped as it is just an ego project totally unjustified economically. The money should be diverted to electrifying the rest of the network and building more lines and stations. Why can not they see it, it is not rocket science !

Remember the news was whittering about excess heat deaths due to the months of heat wave - check out the tiny, tiny spike in amongst the weeks of much lower than normal deaths this summer.

Hybrid trains would have limited applications, combined with energy harvesting braking then and routes with a lot of stopping and starting or slow G and accelerating then perhaps there could be some benefit. However as I understand it this is a refurbishment so I'm not sure that there will be any saving. Although passengers on the platform will benefit from the reduction in fumes.

Is there any evidence of US, UK and EU Politicians having a few too many happy meals with far too many free drinks?

All the money and hype yet nothing has ever actually changed:

'Rolls Royce signs hybrid train deal to conduct trials to convert diesel trains to hydro-electric from 2020" (Its German division)'

Hydro-electric? Isn't the dam and the water going to be quite heavy to cart around?

Looks like one of Herr Junker's projects (iirc) has been waved off as all above board in Luxembourg....

business section : claim that Magtec will revolutionise trains
They have a device to convert DMUs to Hybrid drive
"The Class  165 Hydrive range extender"
Doh, seems like you put another small diesel on board and use it to drive a battery,
regenerative braking also drives the battery
Then that is connected to small electric motors.
#1 You get faster acceleration
#2 The system turns off diesel when in a station zone

The info Box is marked : Clean Energy Revolution

Then with typical lack of self awareness another article on same page
"Rolls Royce signs hybrid train deal to conduct trials to convert diesel trains to hydro-electric from 2020" (Its German division)
I suppose if you'd put a big battery on an old Deltic, then it too could run with the diesel off for a minute or so.
================

Greenstar Energy fined $680K for miselling
They ran a comparison site which only offered their own services.
