If you’re quick you can get to see Stephen Emmmott’s lecture on
“The Future of Life, from Biology to the Biosphere” at the Institute of Engineering and Technology before the pub meeting. Details at

Emmott was the star of the recent Royal Court doomfest “Ten Billion” in which he wowed the luvvies with his mathematically modelled climate/population/resources Armaggedon.
You’ll really need a pint after that.
Merry Christmas.

Just back from the pub meet where the quality, not the quantity of attendees was our watchword.

It was great to meet Maurizio Omnologos and to hear firsthand of his 28Gate achievement. Josh dished out his autographed calendars and treated us to his active listening and conviviality. Two lurkers (who I will allow to introduce themselves if they chose) joined us and had very interesting perspectives to share. The discussion of non-polynomials rather passed me by, but the emphasis on observations of reality as being the final arbiter of science...rather than just some modelling results.. struck a deep chord with me.

All in all a grand evening. I showed Josh the delights of the 345 bus and he gave me some chips
What more could good BHers want before Christmas?

I was really tempted to attend but I am so deaf these days that I would be a drag ^.^
