Going down?
The highlight of the day looks as though it's going to be the sentencing of the Heathrow 13 - the gang from Plane Stupid who thought it would be amusing to shut down Heathrow airport for several hours. Expectations are that a jail sentence beckons.
The usual suspects are protesting outside the Magistrates Court and there will no doubt be lots of spurious claims that these were "peaceful protestors", as if preventing people from going about their daily business were anything other than thuggery.
Massive support for #Heathrow13 here Willesden for sentencing. A travesty and a disgrace if they are jailed. pic.twitter.com/HmamLzvV4x

It's about time these people were dealt with.
As always, it's good to look at the protests from a wider angle.
Bit late but im here to support the #Heathrow13 pic.twitter.com/1NyEVM2DTY

Six week sentences, suspended for 12 months, plus community service plus fines.
I wonder if this will put any of them off.

Phil Clarke, so what you are confirming is, never trust a climate scientist, and all the dire warnings should have been ignored and never been given any publicity at all. Why didn't Global Warming Scientists ask for corrections to these scam stories? Was it their jobs and salaries they were worried out, rather than the rest of mankind?
All this man made global warming piffle should have been burnt, or weighted down and sunk in the Marianas Trench. Children and adults alike can go to bed without worrying, apart from the crises that have been fabricated by climate scientists out of beautiful fresh air.
Previous 'Peak North West Passage' enthusiasm was in about 1850, the most recent North West Passage enthusiasm seems to have Peaked aswell.
Some things just seem to go in natural cycles, and still nobody is any closer to knowing why. More funding will be required, probably, but why not give it to icecream sales people to work on in the winter, when otherwise they are unemployed? They would have an incentive to get warming forecasts right.
Phil Clarke what should we call all these false threats dreamed up by Climate Scientists?
Mannian maniacal madness?
Hansen hogwash?
Please, don't make excuses for David Viner. He said something really foolish and we won't ever let him forget it
No. A p*sspoor journalist wrapped some filler around some quotes and the copy-editor added a dumb headline. Apparently good enough around here. Find me a contemporary primary source saying the same thing.
You know that we've had people predicting the imminent demise of Arctic ice for decades
Hmmm. More press reports, and a lot about the same projection from Maslowsky, which was actually for an ice free period by 2016 plus or minus three years. And the 4th one down is from Mark Serreze and 2030, confirming what I wrote
Dame Slingo was reporting on the science, or do you think drier winters and a wetter overall climate are incompatible?
BTW, did you read this bit, from your first link?
Slingo also dismissed fears that the Arctic could be entirely free of sea ice in summer as soon as 2015. Between 2025 and 2030 would be the earliest date she would consider it possible, she said, and the Met Office's latest models suggested 2040-60 as most likely. "Our expectation is certainly not in the next few years as you've heard from some evidence," she said.
So, whoever was predicting a 2012 thaw, it wasn't the MET Office.
However, our CO2 emissions have been following the scenario A numbers, and our temp anomaly is nowhere near that,
More made up stuff.
Phil Clarke, too right mate!
Posting a link to Skeptical Science as "More Made Up Stuff"
Don't you think it is a bit late now to try and explain away the dumb scaremongering? Wasn't it a so called scientist who said that people have to be given scary scenarios? Mann obviously listened, and Hansen, and ... etc etc ad infinitum.
Why the sudden urgency to have the work of Mann and Hansen hidden away in a locked filing cabinet in a disused toilet, in a basement, with a sign saying "Beware of the Tiger" on the door?
It is as though there is a desire to erase inconvenient facts from the history of climate science. What has gone so disastrously wrong, to create the panic?

What colour is the sky on your planet?
Phil Clarke, so two people with an unenviable record of being wrong are honoured by fellow climate scientists. For keeping the scam going? The amount of money they have earned? The number of lives ruined? The number of deaths that could have been prevented?
It is not very Green is it? Did Malthusians honour Stalin and Pol Pot too?
Climate Science has been about false claims of disaster from the outset. Climate science IS the disaster.
Phil,
I love that SkS piece that tries to vindicate Hansen. The nub of the whole screed is basically that Hansen would have been right if he'd got the forcings correct i.e. he would have been right, but he was wrong.
They completely shoot themselves in the foot with this nugget:
In other words, Hansen got it wrong. Classic stuff from SkS - they couldn't argue their way out of a paper bag!
Come on Phil, don't try and make excuses for the ice-free gang.
Here's an example of an "ice expert" getting it completely wrong:
In 2012 Prof Peter Wadhams told us that the arctic would be ice free by 2016
It seem the 'expert' prof screwed up, didn't he?
David Smith, it is an important part of denial of responsibility to blame someone else, and Phil Clarke has already proved this by blaming journalists for overcooking previous doomsday predictions, made by climate scientists.
Peter Wadhams, an expert in false predictions about Arctic ice, was written up by one of the Guardian's top experts in Global Warming, John Vidal. This combined level of integrity and honesty, contained within the Guardian, helps demonstrate why Global Warming is the science of utter failure.
But they still get paid. If they didn't keep doing it, they wouldn't get paid.
Apparently, some Guardian Climate Science experts even have to 'buy' in outside help for their articles.
Remember, Hansen was not just predicting for the 2010-15 period. In fact, his GISS Ts index tracked Scenario B quite well untill 2010, then his model warmed while the Earth didn't. But then the model stabilised while lately the Earth has warmed, so once again the Scenario B projections are coming close. Since the projections actually cool now to 2017, it's likely that surface air observation series will be warmer than Scen B.

"However, our CO2 emissions have been following the scenario A numbers, and our temp anomaly is nowhere near that,"
Scenario A had 410ppm CO2 by now, actual figure about 10ppm under that.
"These various methods [selecting (subsets of) CMIP3 and CMIP5 models in different papers] all suggest a faster rate of summer Arctic sea ice decline than the multi-model mean. However, they also lead to different timings for when the Arctic Ocean might become nearly ice-free in September. The following time intervals are obtained when combining all available studies: 2020–2100+ (2100+ = sometime after 2100) for the SRESA1B scenario and RCP4.5, with a best estimate in the range of 2035–2065 and 2020–2060 for RCP8.5, with a best estimate in the range of 2035–2050."
IPCC AR5.Summary for Policymakers.
A true sceptic looks at all the evidence.
Phil Clarke, who gives a crap about Arctic ice?
There are only two things about Arctic ice: one is the polar bears, and the second is the open sea feedback loop BS.
Believe me, the polar bears, even if they die out, wont bother anyone other than celebrities and Greenpeace. As for the 'runaway global warming because the Arctic sea is exposed to sunlight' theory, who can take it seriously amongst all the other nonsense mechanistic theories global warmists come up about how this or that would happen?
So yeah, next.
shub, actually there is another important factor, which may explain the US and UK Military taking a keen interest historically, (and some still do) Beneath the Arctic ice is a great place to conceal submarines, which may hold nuclear missiles.
Whether through greater experience of ice, or different technology, the Russians don't seem particularly worried about the ice at all. They did 'plant' a flag on the seabed, but that was probably more about asserting mineral (oil) rights.
The Canadians were looking forward to the North West Passage becoming a lucrative International sea route, but those plans are 'on ice', or something very similar.
Too easy, Paul..
