Those lovely BBC journalists

Most of the presenters on the BBC News Channel are a bit of an unknown quantity to me - anonymous, featureless, characterless. The exception was one particular guy, whose casual use of the d-word at the time of the Fifth Assessment Report marked him out as a campaigner rather than a journalist. I noted his behaviour and I have recalled it when he has appeared on my screen but that was the extent of my interest. The BBC is full of people who are campaigners rather than journalists.

That was until this morning when I learned that his name is Tim Willcox and he facing calls for his resignation, after some outrageous behaviour during the march for free speech in France.

A BBC reporter has faced calls to resign after he told the daughter of Holocaust survivors in Paris: 'Palestinians suffer hugely at Jewish hands as well'. 

Journalist Tim Willcox sparked anger during his coverage of yesterday's rally in Paris, held in memory of the 17 victims of last week's terror attacks, including four Jewish people in a siege at a Kosher supermarket.

Potty mouthed, bigoted, biased. He's probably due for promotion.

I remember talking to Americans in Paris in the early 1980's who physically and verbally attacked in the streets because they were the dumbest people in earth. I spoke to a very nice doctor who said 'we protect you from the Soviets'. LOL !

Israel has the right to defend itself from organized terror attacks.

People who do not like where they live can de-camp, it is done the world over.Every year more people move for better
opportunities than the whole of Gazah times 10. So Gazans can do that as well. But they don't because being a paid professional victim pays well.

Israel has always been the excuse of dictatorships to trot out when there are problems. Assad did that on a regular basis but all the other kingdoms and sheikdoms used that as well.

Oh and lefties in the west in need of an issue to be angry about.


South Africa: More people die there from violence and racism every year than during the whole of the Apartheid regime.

This prat, Willcox, would not have DARED to suggest to the man or woman in the street that Lee Rigby's death was understandable because the British Army was slaughtering muslims in Afghanistan. Jews are a soft target amongst certain braindead sectors of the PC Tendency because they think everyone else thinks as they do, that antisemitism is the norm (and it is in most of the media) so there will be no comeback for their crassness. You don't go to a funeral and suggest the dead victims are the cause of their own demise. That is, perhaps, another discussion for another day.

So there should be 5M vacant dwelling (they are been approriated of course, without compensation, but their dwellings that could be considered as the owner was forced to leave)

I think this discussion has pretty much played itself out. It is somewhat interesting that perhaps those with the strongest views of racial hatred towards Jews who don't have any issues with the BBC'S reporting are also strongly in the Mann Made Global Warming (tm) catastrophiliac camp.

In fact, what I see is people taking a couple of sentences of ambiguous meaning and intent (did anyone listen to what the woman said, itself less than politically perfect?), hearing only what they want to hear (ie. cherry picking), and using it to reinforce their own prejudices and biases, and to berate those who disagree with them.

This is analogous, though on a much smaller scale of course, to those who use the 'holy texts' to do the same. That is what Charlie Hebdo campaigns against (though I don't agee with the style in which they do it).

Willcox's comment was at best crass but was probably only just one more example of the appalling standards of current sound and vision "journalists" best summed up in the classic line "apart from that, Mrs Lincoln, how did you enjoy the play?" Modern media have no idea about how to carry out decent research and most of the airheads are incapable of rising above "talk us through it", "how did you feel when ...?", or Fiona Bruce's eternal stand-by "wow! that's amazing!" (Admittedly that is usually on Antiques Roadshow; the rest of the time she has a script to keep her under control.)
As marchesarosa says this was a discussion for another day but lost for a response all Willcox could do was reach for the good old "but the Jews ..." line. It says all you need to know about the media mindset (not necessarily Willcox's own) and the BBC in-house "line" that an anti-Israel comment was what first wandered into the otherwise empty space between his ears.

Bryan the only 'ghetto' in history where its population has done nothing but increase and where five star hotels live along side rocket launching sites. and where the priority for constructing goes to tunnels , not to get things in or out of the ‘ghetto’ but into tunnels that make it easier for you to kill others on the grounds of their race.

Post World War II there were millions of displaced persons who found themselves on the wrong side of formerly international borders. They "moved on" and became productive, gainfully employed citizens elsewhere. Within a few years the European Displaced Persons Camps were no more.

The difference in Palestine/Israel is that the UN has financed certain politically motivated displaced Arabs to squat on a remnant of land as permanent refugees for more than half a century. That is the only difference between the European and Middle Eastern Displaced Persons situation. Certain Palestinians REFUSE, courtesy of outside subsidy, to "move on". All the Palestinians with get up and go have already gone (certainly, nearly all the Christian Palestinians have gone) you need only look at the stats for the Palestinian diaspora:

The Americas, north and south, have certainly done their part in "solving" the Palestinian problem.

James Gelvin, a Middle East history professor, cites at least three reasons for why the British government chose to support Zionist aspirations. Issuing the Balfour Declaration would appeal to Woodrow Wilson's two closest advisors, who were avid Zionists.

At that time the British were busy making promises. At a War Cabinet meeting, held on 31 October 1917, Balfour suggested that a declaration favourable to Zionist aspirations would allow Great Britain "'to carry on extremely useful propaganda both in Russia and America"[16]

The cabinet believed that expressing support would appeal to Jews in Germany and America, and help the war effort.[17] It was also hoped to encourage support from the large Jewish population in Russia. Britain promoted the idea of a national home for the Jewish People, in the hope that Britain would implement it and exercise political control over Palestine, effectively "freeze out France (and anyone else) from any post–war presence in Palestine."[18] According to James Renton, Senior Lecturer at Edge Hill University, an Honorary Research Fellow at University College London, and author of The Zionist Masquerade: the Birth of the Anglo-Zionist Alliance: 1914–1918 (2007), Prime Minister David Lloyd George of the United Kingdom supported the creation of a Jewish homeland in Palestine because "it would help secure post-war British control of Palestine, which was strategically important as a buffer to Egypt and the Suez Canal.".[19] In addition, Palestine was to later serve as a terminus for the flow of petroleum from Iraq via Jordan, three former Ottoman Turkish provinces that became British League of Nations mandates in the aftermath of the First World War. The oil officially flowed along the Mosul-Haifa oil pipeline from 1935–1948, and unofficially up until 1954.

David Lloyd George, who was Prime Minister at the time of the Balfour Declaration, told the Palestine Royal Commission in 1937 that the Declaration was made "due to propagandist reasons".[20] Citing the position of the Allied and Associated Powers in the ongoing war, Lloyd George said that (in the Report's words) "In this critical situation it was believed that Jewish sympathy or the reverse would make a substantial difference one way or the other to the Allied cause. In particular Jewish sympathy would confirm the support of American Jewry, and would make it more difficult for Germany to reduce her military commitments and improve her economic position on the eastern front." Lloyd George then said

The Zionist leaders gave us a definite promise that, if the Allies committed themselves to giving facilities for the establishment of a national home for the Jews in Palestine, they would do their best to rally Jewish sentiment and support throughout the world to the Allied cause. They kept their word.[20]

Regarding the intended future of Palestine, Lloyd George testified:

The idea was, and this was the interpretation put upon it at the time, that a Jewish State was not to be set up immediately by the Peace Treaty without reference to the wishes of the majority of the inhabitants. On the other hand, it was contemplated that when the time arrived for according representative institutions to Palestine, if the Jews had meanwhile responded to the opportunity afforded them by the idea of a national home and had become a definite majority of the inhabitants, then PaIestine would thus become a Jewish Commonwealth.[20]
In his Memoirs, published in 1939, Lloyd George further elucidated his position:[21]

"The Balfour Declaration represented the convinced policy of all parties in our country and also in America, but the launching of it in 1917 was due, as I have said, to propagandist reasons... The Zionist Movement was exceptionally strong in Russia and America... It was believed, also, that such a declaration would have a potent influence upon world Jewry outside Russia, and secure for the Entente the aid of Jewish financial interests. In America, their aid in this respect would have a special value when the Allies had almost exhausted the gold and marketable securities available for American purchases. Such were the chief considerations which, in 1917, impelled the British Government towards making a contract with Jewry."

Neither the Jews or Palestinians caused the Second World War .

History records that Hitler and his Nazi party led Germany into the war that resulted in massive loss of life and property.

If any nation should pay for this criminal act surely it should be Germany!
It would be a harsh but justified act to carve out a large area of Germany for a homeland for all displaced persons including Jews.

Nobody has explained why the Palestinians should lose their land .

Perhaps some of the ethnic experts can explain?

Between the end of the WW1 and the founding of Israel there was WW2 and six million dead becasue they where Jews. If the 'Zionists' where all powerful has you claim during and after WW1 you think its that would happened before WW2 and meant that some of those six million would not have died. Perhaps the claims of the 'powerful Zionists ' are just BS and very thin cover for those that have an issue with Jews?

Bryan, this is irrelevant. There is no rationality in war. People suffer. Millions suffered in Europe after the First and Second World Wars through no fault of their own and had to relocate and build new lives. They did so and now the problem of displaced people in Europe no longer exists.

Only in Palestine do we find refugees still squatting on the fringe of the land from which they were displaced more than sixty years after the event. The reason is misguided subsidy from the UN. It is absurd.

Did you read the stats I provided of the worldwide Palestinian diaspora? Millions of Palestinian put the loss of their homeland behind them and started again elsewhere - which is the NORMAL human reaction to displacement. The rest should do so PDQ if they had any sense. All of those remaining in Gaza have relatives established elsewhere. They should join them and re-start their lives instead of living on handouts, clinging to the rationality of a death cult in a hellhole.

Shlomo Sand: an enemy of the Jewish people?

'Post-Zionist' Shlomo Sand has outraged many Jews by disputing the ethnic basis of Jewish identity. Rafael Behr meets him in Paris

Sand's hands are depicting how most Jews are descended from converts who never set foot in the Holy Land. That has come as a bit of a surprise to many Jews and as a colossal affront to Zionism, Israel's national ideology. The modern Israeli state was founded on belief in a "Jewish people" as a unified nation, established in biblical times, scattered by Rome, stranded in exile for 2,000 years, then returned to the Promised Land.

But according to Sand there was no exile, and as he seeks to prove by dense forensic archaeological and historical analysis, it is meaningless to talk today about a "people of Israel". At least not if by that you mean the Jews.

Of course I do NOT consider Israel doing anything "wrong" by going to war with someone who attacks them.

Some good observations in this post but remember poor Tim is himself a victim. He left his wife and family for a BBC Sophie in 2012 only for her to dump him for an action man in 2014. No wonder he can't think of a proper, reasonable, compassionate question to ask!
