Gore drops Mann

Anthony has a really interesting post from a spy inside one of Al Gore's Climate Leader training programs. Read the whole thing, but I thought this was particularly interesting.

Al Gore himself went through the entire slide show that we are supposed to use as his “Climate Leaders.”  Quite honestly, there is nothing new here, EXCEPT that there is no trace of the “hockey stick” graph that was so central to “An Inconvenient Truth”!! Amazing, considering how central that was to their arguments!

Fascinating. I have to wonder what the thermocline looks like at higher latitudes where the surface is often colder than the deeps, and how this affects the story. Obviously there is some sort of stability if the water at depth is denser than the layers above, but there is also a transition between two stable states: higher levels > 4 C therefore less dense, and higher levels < 4 C and therefore less dense. During the transition the thermocline will be unstable, in an interesting way.

Anyhow: 1. it is clear we cannot understand atmospheric gas variation without understanding oceanic gas content variation, and 2. the temperature stability of the deep ocean over millions of years is just as much in need of explanation as narrow band of variability of the global climate over the same timescales.

Marcott turned Mann into Gore's Achilles heal.

The concept of “climate leaders” has a chilling feel about it. Expect to see mass burnings of Montford's books and effigies of the Pielke family in a few years, complete with Nazi salutes and uniforms .

Fahrenheit 15.

Strangely, I've been talking on the Guardian blogs and the commenters there are convinced that the Hockeystick has been proven to be true.

Over twenty other studies replicate it, I'm told. All using different methodologies.

I'll tell you what these studies are just as soon as they tell me.

Guess even St Gore has had enough of Mann and his magnificent ego .
Still it will be 'fun' watching these rats in sack tearing each to bits in an effort to be last rat standing .

Gore dropping Mann will certainly have nothing to do with scientific principles. It might be that Mann's litigating gymnastics has something to do with it.

It's a good time to recall the nasty Big Brother side of Gore that presented a "SPREAD TRUTH. DESTROY DENIAL." message for activists to adopt on his RealityDrop.org site:

http://s23.postimg.org/gg66103mz/Fire_Shot_Screen_Capture_517_Reality_Drop_Sp.png

The reason Marcott's crazy hockey stick in the journal Science that relied on proxy re-dating to create a blade via spurious data drop off is such a wonderful Achilles heel for the whole AGW movement is that unlike Mann's original work, any layperson can fully comprehend the garbage in/garbage out nature of it by just reviewing plots of the input data and seeing how they simply don't support the result. I look forward to a new round of popular books that incorporate Mann's public celebration of Marcott and now also of Cook's wildly bogus version of the 97% consensus. Not many minds are changed on the Internet that aren't already primed to be skeptical, but arming each local neighborhood with books and videos that provide ammo for local science buffs, that is where minds get changed in the real world.

Don't bother. They are not educable.

In any case, the standard reply is always "Even if his methods were erroneous, what does that matter, since his results were right?"

The fact that his results were wrong too does not enter into it.

Mann was one of Gore's 'useful idiots'.

Now, less useful. Gone....

As has been said above, it'll be fun watching the rats in a sack.

Hmmmmm

I'm tempted I've always like green and black . Would I meet Mr Gore if I joined up ? I'll get back to you.

Well almost every Guardian Environment blog has claims that the Hockeystick is proven.

For instance, today@
TheGreenMan tswash

"...science that is on message but has flaws (the Hockey Stick) ". Misinformation. The hocket stick has been validated many times over.

On the 97% thread:
http://www.theguardian.com/environment/climate-consensus-97-per-cent/2013/aug/02/climate-change-contrarianism-not-skepticism

But you won't persuade them with facts.

Actually, in "An Inconvenient Truth", Gore did show what turned out to be Mann's hockey stick, but which he described as "Lonnie Thompson's thermometer" or whatever. Possibly Gore is barely aware of Mann's existence.

Here is an interesting quotation from Michael Mann:

Proof is for mathematical theorems and alcoholic beverages. It’s not for science.

The source is the article below.

I had a long conversation with one of my neighbours yesterday about all things climate and energy related. We've got to know each other pretty well over the years and it was his recommendation in the early days of the Apple iPad that this was what we should get as a first computer for my mother - advice which has come off spectacularly well. I always find this guy interesting to talk to and he came and sat next to me yesterday in a nearby wateringhole and wi-fi spot and was obviously keen to chat.

I was reading David Coe's latest and so for the first time we got talking about climate and energy. As I suspected he held to a Guardianista line almost across the board. He was a sceptic about wind power solving anything and felt we would have to go to nuclear but that I think is common by now in those parts. And on the rest, self-correcting science, the 97%, fossil-fuel funds manufacturing doubt, how wonderful the economic boom is going to be if we lead the world in renewables and so much more, he has to be counted a devout member of the Orthodox Church of CAGW.

I listened pretty well, I think, and gave my view in a way he obviously didn't find too obnoxious, as a couple of hours later we walked back home together, getting into the history of eugenics, about which he asked me a genuine and incisive question, which told me he too had been listening, perhaps not with awe, but at least with respect.

And what interests me in the context of this thread is that when I brought up the hockey stick he didn't come out with any defence of it at all. He may have been exhausted by that point of course. It may only be a straw in the wind to you but if both Gore and my friend have dropped Mann, for me it's enough. Next, please.

Climate Leaders = Indulgence selling clergy.

Deniers = reformers....

Windmills = crucifixes.

Aug 2, 2013 at 5:30 PM | Unregistered CommenterNikFromNYC

I think it would be more accurate to say they've each kicked the other to the curb. The degree of respect they have for each other is surely mutual. The relationship more closely resembles a divorce than a philosophical shift. The grounds for that divorce being hopelessly incompatible egos.

To paraphrase:

The Climate Sceptic is an infiltration unit, part man - part machine. Underneath it's a hyperalloy combat chassis, microprocessor-controlled, fully armored, very tough. But outside it's living human tissue. Flesh, skin, hair, blood, intellectual Integrity, built to destroy charlatans.

Roy,

He's right though.

Just cos Mann said it, doesn't mean it's wrong.

That post was a Watts cock-up.

Let's stick to being truthful.
