Bears and Berries
Bears that prefer berries to fish may not put on the necessary fat reserves to survive winter hibernation, especially pregnant females.
Worrying news for vegetarian earth mothers.
One take on the bear story is here
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2017/08/25/grizzly-bears-go-vegetarian-due-climate-change-choosing-berries/
It seems to be based on a one-off event in 2014 when bears were chomping berries when they'd normally be fishing. But it goes onto say that, by the linear extrapolation preferred by environmentalists, it'll be 2070 before the berry and fish 'seasons' overlap.
Still, the article gives useful tips for surviving encounters with black or brown bears, for which apparently different tactics should be adopted. Unfortunately it then says that some brown bears are black, and some black bears are brown.
All right who's the Isle of Wight Russian spy here ?
Times is running with that conspiracy theory on its front page.
Alleging that Ukip supporting Twitter account David Jones is somehow really in Russia.
Blackberries double crop this year.
Tomatoes double crAp
No red ones yet ..outdoors
@ST 9:30am LBC Nick Ferrari
"TH council had 2 options : Do something to fix the child's situation or run to the court claiming breach of privacy, they chose the latter.. Result's in n the judge finding against then and ordering that the child be placed withe grandmother... TH still tried to exclude the Times from court and again the judge ruled against him."
The Muslim rent-a-gob that the BBC used was also on LBC and Ferrari basically called her a nutter.
Around 9:45am a Prof Groen? from ULU was in claiming Harvey was due to extra moisture
. actually he didn't seem to know what he ESS talking about.
mikeh. I heard the bear story some days ago. Then it was that during years favourable for berries, bears fish for salmon to a lesser effect. Unsure if this can be related to climate change - what influences growth of berries? [This year appears to be a bumper blackberry year in Norfolk with many of the different species producing larger than usual crops].
Channel 4 is just as bad for fact-free alarmist reporting and bias.
I happened to catch the start of their 7pm news which opened with comments linking Harvey and recent floods in Asia to climate change and then posed the question of whether Trump's withdrawal from Paris would make such things worse in future.
Someone on their editorial team must have had a lottery day, pushing climate change, taking a swipe at Trump and raising fears for the future.
I didn't watch any more, surprisingly....
According to the frontpage of today's "i", climate change is making bears vegetarian.
Clearly we have yet to reach peak stupid!
re: BBC and fostering
It's not that long ago we were regaled by the BBC about Joyce Thacker's attempts to remove children from an evil racist "UKIP foster family" in Rochdale.
S'funny .... the lady seems to be MIA.... no doubt clutching a fat payment - the relish with which the BBC pitched into that matter should inform as to their predisposition to play PC politics with anything that takes their fancy...
As for Fox TV disappearing .... we were told (3 years ago?) that the pisspoor BBC Three was being euthanised d/t lack of audience - yet the production of poisonous drivel under that banner continues apace ... with little sign of abating.
I half listened to a discussion on BBC 4 discussing merits of fostering locally or by ethnicity. Reference was made to the Tower Hamlets case to explain why topic was being discussed. Specific cases involving children and still under court jurisdiction would never be discussed. Would have paid more attention if I had known the case was to constitute further BBC bashing. I suspect that if the BBC had broken what it considered a moral or legal law and discussed the specific case, it would now be undergoing stick here for that ("shameful BBC").
Is there a shortage of bears? Didn't they survive the last ice age? Don't they know what's best to eat without some busybody with a duff degree telling them?
