I watched some of Question Time last night for the first time in many a long year. It doesn't seem to have improved that much, although there didn't seem to be as much interrupting of speakers either by other panelists or the audience as I remember.

I was very impressed by Akala who I'd never heard of until last night, I'm male old and white which probably explains that, although not agreeing with all his views and opinions he was well prepared thoughtful and very good on the non-interruption front. On the other hand Chloe Westley of the Taxpayers Alliance seemed unable to let anyone else finish what they were trying to say, doing herself no favours in my eyes. The programme is relatively short with a chairman who likes the sound of his own voice and one too many panelists and I want to hear what they have to say without interruptions diverting them.

Anti-Trump (USA) and general left wing bias in the audience was as evident as I remember. Particularly when Chloe Westley suggested President Trump might be due for the Noble Peace Prize if the Koreas come to some sort of peace agreement after being at war for almost 70 years. if the Iranians also decide that they are dealing with a USA that means what it says and has unstinting support for Israel and make stability in the Middle East a bit closer then he will be a more deserving recipient than many in recent years. It is unlikely that any of the hecklers of the idea in last nights programme will change their minds.

So I won't make a point of watching it again in a hurry, all the old failings are still there.

UN negotiations in Bonn are set to end in a stalemate today as delegates have become bogged down in technical arguments about the Paris climate pact. Poorer nations say they are fed up with foot-dragging by richer countries on finance and carbon-cutting commitments. Some countries, led by China are now seeking to renegotiate key aspects of the Paris agreement. An extra week of talks in September has been scheduled to try and get the process back on track. –Matt McGrath, BBC News, 10 May 2018

A proposal for bringing international environmental law under one legally binding treaty at the United Nations will be up for a preliminary vote later this week at the U.N. General Assembly. The United States U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley tells Fox News in a statement that the U.S. won’t support the measure. —Fox News, 9 May 2018

The EU has committed to a 20% cut in its energy use by 2020 to be achieved by two directives, covering energy efficiency and buildings. But leaked documents seen by the Guardian show that Britain is pushing for its 2014-2020 timeline to be stretched backward four years to count “early actions” taken that comply with the efficiency directive. —The Guardian, 9 May 2018

Ex-New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman (D) was at the vanguard of the climate movement, heading legal and political fights against Trump administration attempts to weaken environmental regulations. Schneiderman is also a pugnacious and media-savvy figure whose abrupt and stunning political fall this week after cringe-worthy sexual abuse allegations is an undeniable blow to climate hawks across the country. It may force them to reshuffle their tactics and, to a lesser extent, their priorities. —E&E News, 9 May 2018

Pcar,

My concern is with the word "PERCEIVE". who determines what is and is perceived as an attack. Guarantee you now that person most likely won't be anyone other than a liberal luvy type person who will of course only ever uphold the law against one type of person (who isn't of the liberal bent!).

We either have freedom of speech or we don't. If you don't like what someone is saying then either ignore them OR defeat them in debate but banning them for the perception they are inciting hatred is only going to fuel actual hatred (not the lefts perception of what hatred is).

Climate Science knows its days are numbered, so they have arranged a party in Bangkok whilst they still have some taxpayers money left.

Quite why Bangkok was chosen forClimate Science to go out with a bang remains a mystery, but the list of experts unable to go keeps getting longer.

The tenured nitwits at the BBC are just revisiting green articles of faith. Once they have the "key talent" addicted to both the dosh and the joys of being a public expert I expect that Mark Miodownik's script won't be all his own work and that political rectitude will be liberally spinkled about the place.

We don't now have the option of sending cheap easily broken kerrapp back to China - even some of the shipping containers are now one way items as I understand it - hence the sprouting of "Cheap Containers for Sale" in farmer's fields and low rent trading estates around the UK.

I am constantly surprised at the numbers of notionally rational people who are now convinced that "recycling" by expending several times the value of the original item to transport + process it into something that nobody wants and isn't worth anything much is a sacred duty...... the B Ark effect made flesh.

Pcar

A quick search seems to show that not one civil servant or politician has put their name to this "13 week public consultation".

What a surprise... I mean it's not like there aren't a load of other issues with the UK's increasingly dysfunctional justice system.

There should be some effective public debate about this - but this looks like an attempt at imposition by a bunch of people that prefer to remain anonymous. The phrasing of invitation to contribute to the "consultation" infers that only organisations with an interest in some minor twiddling should get involved...

The presumption in the document is huge - it's all too easy to imagine the background and motivation of the folk involved - and I don't think for a nanosecond that it'll be applied evenly - it's a crude attempt at suppression.

There are already laws in place to deal with a lot of what's discussed - this looks like an attempt to extend summary justice to target things that can be described as legitimate dissent / comment. Looks squarely aimed at Tommy Robinson actually. It would be fun if some public figures got a few comments in - but a turgid 114 pages looks designed to bog down anybody wishing to challenge this shit.

There's a slew of officialdom that want to bring back seditious libel.

Starts Tue 15 May 2018 11am 3 part radio series about plastics
Mark Miodownik sounded quite positive in the trailer.
..but I expect it will turn out to be the normal BBC green bad maths based propaganda

\\ One major area that needs an overhaul is recycling. *
In the UK only 10-20% of plastic collected is recycled.
We, and the rest of Europe tend to burn our waste for energy,
and plastic has a calorific value similar to that of coal.
But proponents of the circular economy say ..... needs ... reusing and recycling again and again//

* So the BBC assert that a particular policy needs implementing just cos "proponents of the circular economy say"
But it's not there job to tell us how to behave , the maths may not work out that way
e.g.burning plastic at final destination maybe more eco than collecting it all up from all parts of the UK and sending it back to the one factory in China.
