"Car dealer tactics stall electric car sales"
By Matt McGrath
Environment correspondent

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-44199160

""Dismissive" car dealers are a major barrier to boosting sales of electric vehicles (EVs) according to a new study.

Researchers, who posed as car shoppers in Scandinavia and Iceland found that sales personnel strongly pushed petrol and diesel powered cars.

Around 77% of dealerships that sold EV brands didn't discuss their existence with the potential customers.

Government signals are a key reason for these attitudes say the authors.

In this study, the researchers visited 126 car dealerships across 15 cities in Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland and Iceland. The team also interviewed over 250 industry experts across the region. Of the 126 dealers visited, only 8.8% of the encounters that the shopper has left them preferring an EV option over a petrol or diesel car.

Excluding Norway, a country where nearly a third of new car sales this year are expected to be electric, the proportion of shoppers opting for EVs dropped to 2.9%."

"The study has been published in the journal Nature Energy." [Where else?].

Couldn't it just be that people aren't buying electric vehicles because they're more expensive and not as good as petrol and diesel cars for the purposes of most people?

It is time to stop funding 97% of Climate Scientists and ignore them for 20 years.

WINNING: Trump officials discussed whether to ‘ignore’ climate data. Anthony Watts / 4 hours ago May 24, 2018

"Trump officials discussed whether to ‘ignore’ climate data: report"

"White House officials discussed the possibility of ignoring federal climate data, according to an internal memo that highlights the Trump administration’s struggles with established climate change science.

The Washington Post reports that a memo, drafted in September by Michael Catanzaro, the then-White House special assistant for domestic energy and environmental policy, discussed three options for dealing with federal scientists’ data about the effects of man-made climate change.

The options included highlighting uncertainties in the data, reviewing the scientific studies under the Administrative Procedure Act, or simply ignoring them altogether, the Post reports.

None of the options suggested by Catanzaro involved publicly espousing the dangers of climate change highlighted in the data.

Having the courage to “do nothing” is probably the best option, because so far, all the claims of “dangers of climate change” have been nothing but hot-air generated by rent-seekers."

Many Country Bumpkins have already declared their back yards Greenpeace Free Zones, as they are invasive and destructive weeds. If only the BBC and Government would do the same.

Gwen since most geothermal thingymajigs require fraking, Greenpiece probably think them verboten as well. But your own particular back garden you could easily declare a geothermal-free zone.

That is the definition of one type of a normally operating geothermal well.

Thank you, you are a very helpful geyser! I am not having one of those GeoThermal thingies in my back yard. Why aren't Greenpeace campaigning against them?

"Lava from the Kilauea volcano in Hawaii has crept towards a geothermal power plant, prompting workers to shut down facilities amid fears of deadly gases."

Why do you think reporters well away from any geothermal facility, have darth vaderesque gas masks? The lava has dissolved within it HS and HCl (the latter of which will ripe out your lungs). So nothing to do with there being a geothermal plant.

"If lava flows into the wells before they are plugged, it could release lethal hydrogen sulphide gas."

And if it doesn't flow down the wells the lava will release lethal hydrogen sulphide gas anyway." If the wells are not capped, they will have to be re-drilled - to avoid this considerable expense is the reason for the capping.

"What happens if you pump cold water into deep underground wells adjacent to volcanic lava eruptions?

The BBC never publicise the dangers of geothermal energy:

"Lava from the Kilauea volcano in Hawaii has crept towards a geothermal power plant, prompting workers to shut down facilities amid fears of deadly gases.

Workers removed flammable substances and the plant's deep underground wells have been filled with cold water. They will be plugged with iron on Tuesday.

If lava flows into the wells before they are plugged, it could release lethal hydrogen sulphide gas."

What happens if you pump cold water into deep underground wells adjacent to volcanic lava eruptions?

The duel standards and hypocracy of this Government is unbelievable. If they want to do something constructive they should roll back the use of wood pellet and scrap the subsidies. I do not know how practical it would be but a good start would to convert Drax to burn gas and get fracking.
