Tomo (12:59) You asked about two movements away from Dems to Reps. No I didn't hear about them, but we went on holiday determined to avoid any discussion of US politics - as guests we should keep our noses out. But one chap came out of his house to explain his "Impeach Trump" sticker to me yelling "he's a criminal". Others predicted armed conflict (which I think is poppycock). One house had a banner "Lock Clinton Up". Our hosts in one place - charming educated worldly people - were slagging off southerners as barmy religious bigots who voted Trump in. This small personal experience matches what can be seen on Youtube (Fox News v Saturday Night Live)... schism between the two tribes hurling insults at each other. I deserve a medal for keeping schtumm when my hosts (Dem) mentioned global warming.

What troubles me is the "dialogue of the deaf" over there. We're a long way from that on this side of the pond, and I'm glad to say that there are no Brexiteer v Remoaner street fights.

Our mate Entropic Man claims that global warming is as incontestible as metal fatigue. That's a lousy comparison. A better one is continental drift which a half century ago was, according to the "scientific concensus" a screwball idea by people who think a globe is like a jigsaw puzzle. As always, the physics comes through.

In this battle of ideas (on global warming) both sides claim the support of the laws of physics, and EM's side is politically ahead at present, but I am confident that the general public will one day laugh at the climate change doommongers and political parties will shun them and their crazy trillion-dollar solutions to a non-problem. It may take decades, but the data will speak and the truth will out.

EM. So you've adopted the Holocene Maximum have you? And just how did such high temperatures arise with only 280ppm CO2? I keep reading that temperatures have not been higher for two million years (or whatever the figure is today) and the sea-level never higher. Which bits of the IPCC fabrication do you actually believe? We have established today quite a bit, perhaps you might go further and accept the Roman and Medieval Warm Periods (and these not being caused by increasing CO2, must mark natural climate variability). A valuable side effect is that you and GolfCharlie could then be mates.

That stressed bridge you were wittering on about, is looking more robust.

I am. It is the sort of feeling you would have watching an elderly civil engineer who does not believe in metal fatigue. Of couse he ignores the younger engineer waving strain gauge data showing that the bridge has had too many load cycles and is unsafe.

I think his first name is actually Brent.

Historians, geographers, geologists, archaeologists etc can all point at Mann's Hockey Stick and laugh. But you still believe in it. Why?

Has the IPCC now washed its hands of Mann, but is afraid to admit it?

I dont understand your problem. 4000 years ago we were just dropping down from the Holocene Climatic Optimum and there were forests in the Alps where there are now glaciers.

As we pass the HCO on the way up again, similar conditions are to be expected.

Paul Homewood and Richard Verney should be worried. These newly exposed trees are evidence for my view of reality, not theirs.

A very interesting article on Paul Homewood's blog - see the comments by Richar Verney.

Yes seems the metroLib Times is going the same way as the metroLib Guardian has been for the last 20 years. ie that it deletes comments, cos it has "holy truths" and the POLITE challenging of them means first the comment is deleted and then the reader banned.
Yesterday they did the CC scare story and the top comment said "97% say"
So I and many othrs explained how shouting "97%" is bunk, but my comment and others were placed in pending.
..Thank God today a large number have been let through including mine.
So Times hasn't gone the full Guardian.
